Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

I can't shoot a landcsape to save my life. My best efforts end up looking like a 2 year old took them with a dodgy 110 (remember them?) camera with out of date film.

I get the biggest buzz taking candid street pictures. I agree with Viking re: paparazzi stuff though; I'd have to be pretty desperate. Plenty of celebs in Brighton, used to be hard to throw a stone in Brighton without it bouncing off Jordan, but they get enough **** without me shoving a camera up their noses.

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

I got my start doing mostly Concert Photography. That picked up speed, tack on nightclub photography. I also branched off into shooting sports (now on staff for a local MMA fight series), doing stock (represented via Alamy), journalism (staff at local college paper), and freelance.

I want to pick up some more steam with freelance work, to add a few more big clients. I'm also hoping to learn my way around studio lighting and strobing so I can do some portraiture type work.

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

Mostly Sports with off camera lighting - I am very rarely seen without 2-3 strobes, some pocket wizards and a few tripods.
I prefer doing portraits outside where the subject feels more comfortable...totally against the indoors, standard lighting pish that venture pumps out for the mis-informed public.
Some magazines have sent me to interesting places - free weekends away at competitions is a good one and a bad one is when they send me to a nightclub
I don't mind bossing people about, most of the time they don't have a clue what you need from them and require a little motivation!!! a gentle nudge haha.
I have done bands, night shots and some macro stuff...At the moment I am pulling my hair out trying to think of ideas for the band 'The Floor', they won battle of the bands this year and are going to be starting for 'Average White Band' in Montrose end of May.

I can't be arsed with landscapes, not really a morning person, and at night i would prefer to use the lighting for better things...unless the landscape involves some flash!!!

inspirations are David Hobby of Strobist and Joe McNally...Oh, I am picking up my copy of 'The Moment it Clicks' tomorrow.

ace, that's me i think??

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

Just looking at what I've posted here they are mainly natural history but I will have a go at anything and what I churn out tends to reflect my other interests at the time. I am least practiced at portraits and usually go for informal ones when I do take them.

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

I would have sworn I had put a post in here..........but apparently not!

I like all types of photography but probably portraiture the least - but thats probably lack of experience and hence confidence.

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

Update ... I'm with you Willow. Just started to investigate portraiture, in view of the wedding I'm shooting in a couple of months time ... gawd wot have I let myself in for It's only a small affair, thankfully + nothing fancy, but I am realising how different portraiture is to shooting landscapes And trying to figure out how to use my new SB800 is another story I must be attempting to do a wedding at this juncture in my photographic experience - or lack of, more like - but at the same time, I'm excited that I have a challenge to rise up to Time is short, so better get cracking

The photograhy that I do is average. The photography I'd like to do is better!

Read the question Graham, key word being "type" (of photography)

Yes I had small taste of that when I volunteered to take a promo shot for work of a care co-ordinator with a client for use on a poster - we decided an indigenous client would be a great idea but his dark face, her light face...cream background .... from a technical point of view it wasn't a very good shot but it worked well enough as promo poster once our arty chap played around with it and added some words etc
Certainly brought people to the stand and they asked about it....
