What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

I've done mostly landscapes.

Dabbled in macro.

Tried a bit of animal photography.

Portraiture ... well I wouldn't call what I've done portraiture, just a few family shots.

Quite enjoy doing a bit of architecture.

Next I'd like to try sports.

Your turn ...

Edit: Also, what type of photography do you avoid! Me? Night shots, haven't tried any yet + quite frankly wouldn't know where to start.

I've tried most everything (except glamour/nude), I'll shoot anything, I prefer candids most of all.

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

I LIKE ALL TYPES REALLY, PORTRAITURE , OLD BUILDINGS, ARCHITECTURE.
I HAVE NOT DONE A LOT OF LANDSCAPES, I AM A GREAT FAN OF MONO.

AT THE MOMENT, MOST OF MY PHOTOGRAPHY IS FAMILY, ESPECIALLY MY GRANDCHILDREN, THE FAMILY PORTRAITS GET BIGGER ALL THE TIME.

THIS YEAR THEY GET EVEN BIGGER, AS MY DAUGHTER IS HAVING A DAUGHTER IN AUGUST, CAN'T WAIT, WE WILL THEN HAVE THREE GRANDDAUGHTERS AND TWO GRANDSONS.

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

Well so far my interest has been mainly landscapes, seascapes and night-shots, i have tried a few sports but not quite up to our resident sports genius P-E.

I'd like to try portraiture in a studio setting something i hope to dabble in more when our babies born. I'd like to improve my macro shots as really not achieved much there and also like to try doing some artistic nude shots.

However i really do enjoy doing seascapes and just love being by the sea for a sunrise or a sunset its really quite relaxing

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

Mostly done macro and nature type shots, events (conerts / plays etc.), some landscape, and some portraiture and reportage type stuff.
Would like to do some real sports, where I can actually have somewhere to stand / sit, and be allowed to take my camera in, rather than be told to stash it in a security locker as soon as I get anywhere near the ground

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

I enjoy shooting people in all sorts of situations, though I kinda shy away from candid 'street' photography. I've shot landscape and architectural work for commercial clients and would like to do more of this in the futre (eyeing up a D3X and tilt/shift lenses)

I'd never have thought I'd end up shooting combat sports but it turns out that's what I enjoy the most - so I savour the occasions when I can. Whilst I can appreciate macro work, it's not something I've ever gravitated towards personally.

What do I avoid? Paparrazzi style work; I've done it one and a half times - both very early on in my agency career - and I didn't like it. I'd much rather do the civilized thing and cultivate my contacts to get up-close and intimate access that the paps don't get.

Right now playing with off camera flash with a very small studio set up. Have done some landscape and wildlife with mixed success, will be doing more landscapes this year, hopefully improving as time goes on. Also want to try more macro as well.

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

Everything i shoot seems to stem from revelling in the place i'm in- Alberta has an astounding wealth of natural beauty, and i never seem to dull the variety of subjects that pop out at me every day...the camera for me is an extension of my eyes- i rarely construct or prefab a subject. Tommorrow is mmmmacro lens day, so i'll be entering a whole new realm of possibilities. Loving where you are translates well into photography- crystallizing the essence of where i am is my ultimate goal. (definately still in the early stages!)

Landscapes are the big thing right now, but... Once upon a time it was flowers and insects real close.

Macro is a new (digital) venture.

Would like to expand my horizons though.

My favourites (and I think it's where I find myself most comfortable) are animal, wildlife and nature - plants and whatnot - but I really wish I could produce a half decent landscape.

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

hm well most know that i love architecture......... but to be honest im getting bored. this then leads to the question ....... what do i concentrate on next........... BUT whenever i try to do something different i still find myself going back to architecture, like getting the chance to shoot in Rosslyn out of hours etc............ these things kinda end up in front of me and i cant refuse............. so there i am back to architecture again........

what i dont like............. landscapes......... lovely to look at and im jealous of anyone who can shoot them successfully........ im useless!
Macro.......... bores me to tears, literally and im just too damn lazy to pull out lights etc and no room in the house.

i would like to try some informal portraiture. dark and gothicy stuff but dont know where to start.

Fi

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

I am pretty new to all this photography stuff and have a long way to go but my main focus is to get good natural portrait shots of children. I love the idea of just shooting in natural light so that they just do their thing without being 'set up'. Children are a challenge but I"ve worked with them all my life (not in a photography sense) so know how to draw them in (except my own!! who run at the sign of a camera or make silly faces) I think there would be nothing more satisfying than shooting someones child and knowing that you have given the parents something to treasure for the rest of their lives. Anyway I have a lot more to learn before I'm in any position to do that yet....

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

Landscape is my 'comfort zone' and is what I have done most over the years but I'm a bit with fionaB in that it feels a bit formulaic these days and I'm finding it harder to whip up the enthusiasm to go out and take pictures.

I'm very keen to get into 'people photography' (with a view to maybe making some money from it) as it's a totally new area for me. To be honest it's a bit scary at the moment - how do you find the people to take photos of? What do you do if the photos are rubbish? Not really keen on glamour work (and I doubt a career in nude photography would be compatible with continued marriage) and in fact informal 'documentary' style photography interests me more than studio does but again that's got to be harder to get into.

In the interim I am getting into a bit of general documentary photography with two projects ongoing, one to document the life of the local village church (combination of architecture and location portraiture) and the other to document the local village which may end up being combined with people's memories to create a book (then there is all the marketing stuff to worry about).

I rather fancy doing some sports or wildlife but right now I have no long lenses and as my next purchase needs to be a 70-200mm f/2.8 I doubt I will be in a position to get the 300mm or 400mm I would need to do either of those. Something for the future.

For me the key is to keep things fun and interesting while challenging at the same time. Photography is such a diverse discipline that there is always something else to do.

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

I started off doing landscapes and architecture. I then purchased a 70-200 IS 2.8L lens and started to do sports photography.

I stay away from portraits and have turned down several offers to do team photos......I'm just not comfortable organising people like that

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

Well, I have tackled just about anything. I certainly include, Landscapes, seascapes, architecture, sport, studio portraits, candid portraits, table top, nature (limited), Macro (limited), family, holidays, creative (sureal, painterly), night/low light, events, theatre (limited) etc. In the past I used to set myself a challenge to try a different area of photography. I plan to buy a decent macro lens sometime and make a real effort in that area but it probably means learning a lot about fungi or insects.

Re: What Type of Photography Do You Do + Want To Do?

lol

Aside from the same as Mr Soupy there, I enjoy very much street photography, buildings and architecture and anything which has a lot of geometry to it (circles, lines, shapes, etc). I don't really enjoy portraiture (probably coz I suck at it) or landscape that much. I will of course try anything if it's the difference between being able to use my camera or not for that day

I want to get myself a macro lens soon. I think I could quite get into that too.
