Hello,
Next week @ school I have to do photo session and I'm looking for inspiration for studio portraiture with various lighting effects. i like very contrasty images, but so far I just found few shots which really like. What you usually do or where you look if want something unusual. Maybe pixalo can do separate kind of gallery with inspirational photographers and their work. Hmmm. Cheers guys!

Re: Where do you get inspiration
From magazine article photos, TV Ads, basically anywhere .... but like you I like the contrast, shadows etc. Been lucky enough to attend Studio sessions setup by Hoffy (above) where has shared how to get the lighting I was after, plus some good feedback for the likes of Les Meehan on this site . Some example results here :-

Re: Where do you get inspiration
Dave, you could have fixed Katie's lip for her.
I have just added a couple of Katie and used the Liquify tool to reduce the lip swelling. I understand from Hoffy that she was hit in the mouth by a Hockey Ball the day before. Very brave of her to turn up for the Studio Group in the circumstances.

Hey the trout pout is in .... forget all your injections, you just need to play sport . Yep she was very good to still turn up & tbh we did try lots of poses to try & hide the bruising <update> just seen your shots in the People Gallery ... good work with the lips !! |

Re: Where do you get inspiration
Quote:
Plagerism ![]() seriously as everyone has said look at the work of who you like. I like Dean Chalkley But for the early studio stuff it might not be a bad idea to start with basics, standing sitting full 3/4 half and H&S with one or 2 main lights. The basic tools will do 90% of what you need and will take a couple of days to learn the other 10% will take a couple of lifetimes and will drive you mad

Re: Where do you get inspiration
Joe McNally - a walking encyclopaedia of lighting and composition
Moose Peterson - absolutely wonderful wildlife and landscape photography Linnea Lenkus - outstanding portraiture, especially infants and newborns Bjørn Rørslett - for seeing the world in such an alternative, artistic way The Sportsshooter.com community - very talented contributors who are always ready to share their knowledge and insights I also look to magazines which I regularly buy: Professional Photographer, Digital Photo Pro, Photo Icon and the Nikon Pro magazine. Other than that, I find that these days I'm constantly thinking about light - particularly natural light and how I can recreate it by "artificial" means. |

Re: Where do you get inspiration
Got Daves suggested book, and must admit it's very informal for me as person who is just entering studio
![]() Thanks. Will have a look on "VikingPhotography " sugestions. I can say already that I recognize Joe McNallys name. Like his work. Thanks again. |
