White Balance
I'm still struggling to get my head around white balance - not enough time in the day to concentrate at the moment - so a quick question if I may.
I'm trying to shoot a silouhette in sunset...now, I did this before and with more luck than judgement I got a nice warm sky. I'm trying to do the same but the sky I'm getting in the shots is is very cold and blue. Will altering the white balance affect this and help me get the desired warmness to the shot and, if so, what sort of setting do I need? |

Re: White Balance
Do you shoot RAW? If so, forget it and deal with it in post-process.
Or, for TIFF files in-camera, it sounds like you have the WB set to other than daylight or auto e.g. artificial light. What WB setting did you use? |

Re: White Balance
Lovely image there, Angela.
It was actually the 'bad' one we needed to see together with the WB setting used! ![]() |

Re: White Balance
A Pentax compact? Because it's probably doing all the warming, sharpening etc automatically, whereas the Nikon will need adjustment manually. I'd trust the Nikon metering/wb.

Re: White Balance
If I was playing and not using raw I would take one auto, one day light and one overcast. Sometimes the auto gets it wrong, sometimes it does a real good job. I think it should tecnically be daylight WB. Sometimes using overcast when it is not gives a warmer pic than it should be but looks better. As there is nothing much in the pic that needs to be white you can pic the one you like best.
