White Marks On Negatives

I Scanned Some Negatives Today, Thought I Would Try Out The New Scanner.
Problem Is Some Of Them Have White Marks On Them, I Don't Know If Maybe
This Was On The Scanner, As I Have Looked On The Negs And Can't See Any Marks.

How Can I Get Rid Of These Marks Using Elements 5 .

Help And Advice Please, In Simplest Terms As Possible Please.

Thank You

Re: White Marks On Negatives

If the marks are dots, check that there is no dust on the plattern of the scanner (or on the inside).

If there are not too many you can remove them in the software by either using the clone tool or the spot healing brush.

Re: White Marks On Negatives

Thanks Dabhand, I Managed To Fix The Problem, With The Clone Tool, As You
Suggested.

I Have Never Used This Before, So Found It Difficult To Begin With, But After
A Lot Of Failed Attempts And A Couple Of Hours, I Got The Hang Of It.

I Found I Was Using The Wrong Brush Size, So Used The Smallest Brush,
Took Longer But Had More Control.

Also Zoomed Right In On The Area I Needed To Fix, Which I Did Not Do To Begin
With.

So That's Something New I Have Learned Today.

Spent The Rest Of The Day Setting Up New Printer, Which I Have Been Putting Off, As First Impressions Of It Frightened Me.

It Is So Big, Much Bigger Than I Thought It Would Be.

But After Reading The Instructions, Over And Over, I Actually Found It
Quite Easy , Getting All The Transit Packing And Tapes Off Was I Think
The Hardest Bit.

I Am Very Pleased With The Results So Far They Are Excellent.

So That's Another New Experience Today. I Have Had A Good Day And Feeling Quite Pleased With What I Have Achieved .

Re: White Marks On Negatives

Could you upload an example just to be sure? Like Dabhand I suspect it'll be dust, fibres etc on the scanner but you never know.

Re: White Marks On Negatives

Hi, it is a while since I scanned negatives but you do need to be careful to make sure there is no dust on them (as you would have in the dark room). Also avoid dust getting into the scanner. If you are very careful dust spots should be very rare.

To remove any such spots, there is a special tool in Elements 5 (Spot Healing brush). While you can remove spots with the cloning tool, it can be difficult as you have found. The spot healing brush is designed for this and is very effective.

Re: White Marks On Negatives

DAVE CANON, I HAVE JUST TRIED THE SPOT HEALING BRUSH, I DID FIND THIS EASIER
TO CONTROL. I THINK WHAT I WAS DOING WRONG WITH THE CLONING TOOL WAS,
I WAS DRAGGING IT AS WELL AS CLICKING ON TO IT.

I THINK THIS WAS WHY I WAS MAKING SUCH A MESS OF IT TO BEGIN WITH.
BUT WITH PRACTICE , I CAN ONLY GET BETTER AT IT.

THANK YOU ALL AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP.
