Unhappy Why are all my prints tinted pink?

hi, i have had a problem for a while where all my prints have a pink tint to them.
The printer is not low on ink, i have cleaned the nozzles etc. i have also tried using a different printer, and i have also tried putting the file i want printing onto a memory stick, transfering to another computer, and printing on another printer connected to that pc, but for some reason they all turn out slightly pink!!! this is really starting to bug me, when i go into the settings for my Nvidia display they are all set to default.
the prints look normal on screen but pink when printed.

this is really strange. can anyone help?!?!

Re: Why are all my prints tinted pink?

What file format are you using, xanda?
Also, what colour space do you use?
And what software do you use for printing your images?

1) well a mixture of jpegs and tif files, but also photoshop files for drawings: when i had an art exam in school for which i took my laptop in to draw a picture on it and printed it off using multiple school printers they all had a pink tint and i had to compensate by lowering the magenta in photoshop.

2)sry dont know what you mean

3) i process in photoshop and then print through HP Photosmart, but i cannot see the significance of this because i printed straight through photoshop when using my laptop at school.

my printer is a HP Photosmart C4100

thanks in advance

Re: Why are all my prints tinted pink?

You say that all of your photos are affected. Is this photos taken outside, indoors amd with flash? Another thing is are the images straight from the camera, or are they edited? There are often different settings for in camera processing too, sometimes termed vivid/standard/ etc.

I'm wondering about the white balance setting too, although pink is not usually associated with WB issues.

Re: Why are all my prints tinted pink?

well the thing is i dont think it has anything to do with any of the images from my camera because even a hand drawn image which i drew on the pc: link had a colour cast when printed on multiple different printers. yes i edit the majority of my photos in photoshop. My thought process is this... is it the camera?>no, because my drawing also had a colour cast> so it must be the screen?>well all the colour settings are on default so surely it isnt?

i'm a bit stumped

This, and your last post, lead me to wonder if it is indeed your screen. If you always have too much magenta at printing stage, but it looks normal on screen, it could be that your screen is not calibrated, and has too much blue in your screen colours (blue being the opposite of magenta in the grand scheme of colours). You should calibrate your screen, in any event.

Or it could indeed be your camera settings, i.e. white balance, as mentioned by Dabhand16. Although WB colours run between blue-yellow, there is a tint option as well that runs either green-magenta or red-yellow, so check this setting on your camera, if it has this.

Is your camera set to use sRGB or Adobe RGB? Although others will argue, it is my belief that sRGB is the most suitable for printing on a home printer. If your image contains more colours than the printer can support, then your printer will "guess" what colours to print if it can't match the colours in your image. Sometimes it will guess wrong! Matching the gamut of colours in your image to that of your printer is always best, in order to avoid interpolating (approximating colours, or guessing).

Here's the relevance: My Epson Stylus R300 wants to further edit my images without my having told it to do so, + the results can be unpredictable. Check your printer settings, + any that look like introducing any sort of editing or "refining" or "optimizing", uncheck them.

Re: Why are all my prints tinted pink?

Charlotte has raised some good points here. Monitor calibration is something that has to be done regularly, as they do drift.

More intereting is the printer drivers. If you are editing in PS, the last thing you want is for the printer to over-ride your settings, so as Charlotte said make sure the driver is set to 'manual', or 'let PS control the printer', or anything except allow the printer to mess up your photos.

Re: Why are all my prints tinted pink?

........... Yes, don't get Pantone Huey I got it, + it's useless as far as I'm concerned.

Cheapest way is to get a colorimeter, like Huey or Spyder Express (could be my monitor's fault, not Huey's, tho' )

PS This was in answer to your question re: suggestions for calibrating your monitor; you then quickly added another post In answer to that question, yes the "gamma thing" will help you. I suggest you read the help files on that one
