Winter subjects

Well winter has rolled around and I am having trouble finding things to take pictures of. I live in Indiana and the scenery is barren and dead during the winter, almost a complete lack of color. I prefer wildlife photography and the winter has really stopped me from taking pictures. The only thing I've been able to take pictures of is waterfowl. I definitely enjoy waterfowl photography but with school I can't keep doing that everyday. Any ideas on something to take pictures of? All suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

You could always try landscapes - sunrise/sets and even a supposedly empty landscape can give you a pleasing image

Indoor photography? Flowers, plants, etc

Indiana wildlife? Hoosier Conservation: Winter 2011/2012

Re: Winter subjects

How about some pictures of snow? If you have a lot, it can lay in some very interesting shapes and form when it settles on trees, shrubs, buildings etc. Also it's an opportunity to practice getting the exposure rightfor snow.

Re: Winter subjects

I live a state to the west of you so I pretty much have the same kind of tree problems. One,, the trees have lots of birds. I practice on my little friends trying to attract birds that normally wouldn't be near my area.. I have learned the focus system just from winter and my little friends who are very fast and good targets. The other thing I do is I have found places near the local river that dosn't get a lot of people and searched out places where activity of bigger animals show up. Being wild turkeys, sea gulls, eagles. Another is night photograghy in the city is always fun. Last of all for now is the water falls. You would be surrprised at all the water falls that are around, "butt" only when it rains. If you know where these are they can be a good source. And a good source in the ice and snow, get up early and find places along banks along roads that leak water, they build gereat ice formations when it ices up. A lot of birds over winter in rock quaries if you can find some. Have fun with shadows when it snows using a close up lense like with fresh tracks from mice and birds. It really never stops..
