Your favorite lens last year ?

I had a surprise when I brought home my 24-105mm L IS last year. It has taken a place right up front for the lens to use. It has moved my 50mm f1.4 behind my 100-400mm L IS. I used to use my 50mm for this range. I now leave home with my 10-22mm and 100-400mm with the 24-105 on the camera,,It was a good buy for me. "24-105mm L IS" gets my vote for lens of the year.

Re: Your favorite lens last year ?

I'd agree that the 24-105 is superb on a full-frame camera, but I loved the Tamron 18-270 on my 40D and that gets my vote for "most used lens of the year"!

Re: Your favorite lens last year ?

Tough one, as I wasn't able to get out with the camera for most of last year due to injury I guess my lens of the year was the one I purchased and used the most once I'd healed up a bit... the "Canon EF200L f/2.8 II"

An excellent prime lens with top notch build and image quality, though I dare say that had I been healthy my EF100-400L IS would have got the most use.

Re: Your favorite lens last year ?

On my 20D the 10-22mm was most used and favourite with the 24-105 being in second place. Now I have a 5D2, I cannot use the 10-22mm (EF-S lens) so the 24-105 is now most used and now the favourite. It is certainly well suited to a full frame camera. Just need to buy a new wide angle zoom now.

It is going to have to be the 24-70mm nikkor zoom lens. It is on about 95% of the time. I love it

Re: Your favorite lens last year ?

My favourite lens last year and any other year has to be my 18-70mm standard zoom which came with first DSLR, in my film days it was a 28-200mm....I do have other lenses and they all will be used again when I go Full Frame.....(some day my FX will come).... sooner rather than later I hope......

Re: Your favorite lens last year ?

Now I've my Sigma SD14 for macro (with Sigma 105mm) the only lenses I use are BigmOS 150-500mm, Canon 300mm IS, Canon 100-400 IS and Sigma 10-20mm (and I expect I'll move landscapes to the SD14 as it produces much better results)

Haven't used the 100-400 for months now (since getting the BigmOS as it's the equal and has greater reach) and only rarely now shoot with the 300mm

Still loving the BigmOS!

Re: Your favorite lens last year ?

Had the chance to have a go with a 1st series Canon 400 f2.8 and that was fun for the sheer size of the thing.

300 f2.8 still tops my most coveted lens. - Shame I can only afford to hire them

Re: Your favorite lens last year ?

well last year it was my 10-22..... very rarely off my camera unless it was replaced with the sigma 20 - 40, a fabulous lens and unfortunately they dont make it any more...... my dream lens would be the 150 - 500 sigma or the 100 - 400 L . either or would make me a happy bunny.
I dont have any IS lenses and i dont have a really good zoom so i reckoned either the sigma or canon would cover both bases....... just have to get a little more pennies together then off to ebay! lol

Re: Your favorite lens last year ?

Honestly for me I love my primes...but sometime I feel you can't beat the 18-200 VR for Nikon shooters. I had an event that I wanted to take pictures of the other day. The only lens I grabbed was my 18-200 - Why? Because I had my family with me that day and I wanted to spend some time taking pictures as well as spend time with my kids. I didn't want to have to change lenses or lug around alot of stuff. The 18-200 VR is sharp and in outdoor events like the one I was at the light was bright enough without needing a really fast lens. The 18 to 200 gave me enough reach as well as width to work with. Was it 100% perfect - no, but it was much easier to carry that baby then other lenses

Re: Your favorite lens last year ?

Looks like a solid trend for the wide anglers, and the walk-a-bouts pushing 200 and 300mm for the extra reach. After looking over all this I hope santa brings me an 800mm for christmas , I better start digging up the mason jars out in the yard. Heaven knows I am tired of putting converters on my camera.

Re: Your favorite lens last year ?

Well I possess 5 lenses in total so in terms of usage and 'loved' factor, here is how they rate:

1. 24-105mm f/4 IS L series - absolutely love this lens to bits and it gets used more than any other.
2. 100-400mm IS L - what can i say? Totally love this too but use it mostly for wildlife shots
3. 17-40mm f/4 L - Since I got my 5D2, this has come into its own as I get true 17mm wide which is stunning for landscapes with dramatic skies, buildings and so on. I don't use it as much though since I got the 24-105.
4. 100mm f/2.8 macro - not the new IS L version but I love it to bits. Perfect for macro work and it comes out just for those.
5. 50mm f/1.8 - who can live without a nifty fifty? Not me, that's for sure. Perfect for those portraits where you want the bg totally blurred out and shots where the lower light demands a wide aperture. Cheap as chips but worth its weight in gold.

There you go, that's my running order. If you tied me down, threatened my goolies with something sharp and insisted I had to relinquish all but one, I would have to keep the 24-105 simply because it's a great lens and gets used the most.

Cheers,
Rob
