I recently read in a thread that if you do not upload your images to your Pixalo gallery then you cannot be eligiable for the weekly photo comp etc. I take issue with this, because I do not often upload my gallery. This is not out of spite, but out of ease of distribution. I prefer to use my own domain and FTP program to upload my photos, and (understandably imo) don't want to upload them twice (ie also into my Pixalo gallery) if I am just as able to post them in threads without them being in the gallery.
The main reason I do not use the gallery a lot is because if I want to share the photos with anyone not from Pixalo, they can't see them, and this can become very troublesome and/or irritating for me and the potential viewer. I therefore cannot really see why people who upload to their own chosen domain (be it owned by them or otherwise) should not be eligible for Photo of the Week?

I would welcome your thoughts on this Crew.

The galleries are completely open to all visitors, even guest visitors. If someone cannot see your images in the gallery, they must be in a private gallery or you are attempting to hotlink from a certain photo here for the purpose of displaying it on another website, Other than that, we have nothing preventing anyone viewing the members galleries or the different categories.

Pixalo is made up of three main interactive sections, the community forums, the members gallery and the Equipment Review sections. As with everything on Pixalo we don't charge for any services and taking advantage of these sections will open you up to other benefits, one of which you have correctly identified as being considered for the Photo of the Week award.

The Photo of the Week is chosen by the Crew from all the shots that have been uploaded into the Pixalo Members gallery that week. If you have not uploaded any shots into the Gallery here then we have nothing to choose from, and therefore you have no chance of winning, getting your shot featured on the forums sidebar and having your gallery here featured.

From my own perspective, Jack, it's just a question of logistics. Checking the week's uploaded shots in the Gallery takes a while - checking every single shot hosted offsite as well would take considerably longer. And then there are those which are described/linked but not actually shown - should those be included?

I reckon it's much simpler and more effective if the choices came from the one source which everyone could easily find and browse.

So, you're right, in an ideal world we'd check all members' shots for POTW - but circumstances and time dictate otherwise! Get uploading to the Gallery to be considered for POTW!

My take on this is that when this was announced it was made clear that the Photo of the Week was going to be selected from the pictures posted in the Pixalo galleries.

As Steve has said, there is nothing to prevent a non member seeing any image hosted at Pixalo other than those kept in a private album. Although I've not done it, I think you can send the URL of a picture or an album to anyone as a link so they can view your pictures directly, as well as people just looking at the site at random.

Mark is right in saying that it is not logistically possible for the Crew to access all of the members shots in the many and various hosting sites on the net. It is not even logistically possible to go through all of the week's threads in the sharing and critique forums looking for contenders.

I can get an image from my computer into the Pixalo gallery in less than two minutes. I'm sure you would not expect every shot you have to be a contender for POTW, so surely there are not so many to upload?

Yep, I took it to mean pic's coming thru the pixalo gallery. In fact, I see the POTW comp as an enticement for members to upload their pics. And it's fair imo that members who take the time to upload their pic's to the pixalo gallery (yes, it's a little bit of work for ALL of us who do so) should have a comp to (possibly) reward their efforts

An image that is ready to go will be more like 30 secs.
