I have had a long standing problems with the numbers of inactive viewers and active participants on any board.

While I was wasting time, I was just going through the critique section, looking at my old submissions. Most had between 200-400 hits.

But the one of Sasha Nude from early December, where there was a great deal of discussion about the level of acceptability here, garnered nearly 2500 hits!

Probably not everyone who is on the site is really interested in photography, huh?

I think we all share your frustration, Skipper. Maybe some, if not all of the hits are guests who cannot post comments.

With regard to Sasha, if my memory serves me right, this was the first time a nude image had been posted on the site, so it is only natural that it got more attention than usual. Again, the ratio of members/guests viewing cannot be measured.

As you point out, every forum/club/association has members who either don't log on/go to the club/attend meetings, and there are others who do log on/visit the club/attend meetings but don't actually participate in the goings on.

That's life. Frustrating, but life.

Yup, Graham, how come you remember the image so perfectly?

There are actually 2 points in my post, first the lack of participation, and secondly the perhaps purient interests of some who come here.

Ah, well, to paraphrase you, "such is life".

And I am not ashamed of the fact in any way.

All I can say is that if you put pictures of naked people (male or female) you'll always attract some extra unwanted attention - it's just life - it's just human nature - it's just a guy thing

I have noticed that some people just like to use the galleries and not the forums and that's ok.

I have noticed threads from people saying they joined ages ago and just found their way back - I guess they got lost somewhere along the way??! I imagine there are quite a few who join only never to return.

Come to think of it I reckon I've joined another forum, hung around for about 3 days before deciding it wasn't for me and haven't been back. I guess that would make me an inactive/uniterested member

Back to the point of the topic ... I think what Skip is trying to illustrate here + Victoria is agreeing with, is that the naked shots posted on the site are going to attract attention from non-photographers who just want to look at nude pic's. That's all they are interested in, not photographs per se nor photography. Some of the restrictions on the site press visitors to "join" simply because that's the only way they are able to access certain areas or information or indeed pic's on the site. So they "join" for one session only, + once they have seen what their web search directed them to, it's "bye-bye blackbird". So in summary, Skip is right, not all pixalo "members" are here because they enjoy or are interested in photography. Sad but true.

It is my opinion, and I digress here, that the human form in all it's variations, is the most interesting thing in the universe to photograph.

i think its a case of not everyone having the confidence to say something about a photograph
its easy to say whether you like a picture or not, but its a different matter when you need a coment on the technicallities, i leave that to the experts.
i do like to look as at many photo's as possible, to look for tips, insperation, and read what has been said by others so as to maybe learn a little that way
and i suppose, that like everyone else, if you see a thread thats got nude in the title, your going to go and have a look,

I only have this to add, and I am sure that all will agree.

Technical stuff aside, it helps the photographer a lot if people will just tell them why they hate or love an image. What about the image causes the viewer to stop and look a little longer? What kind of feeling does the image cause in the viewer?

These things are so important to everyone, and not spoken of frequently enough.

But that is the reason an artist creates art....to evoke a feeling or response from the viewer.
