RSS picture feeds
Hi,
Please can we have an RSS picture feed for my screen saver and photo frame. The screen saver from google. The picture frame is a momento. I think you create a picture feed by listing the pictures as enclosures in the RSS feed. I guess you could do a prity crude implementatation and shuve it through feedburner to tidy it up. This may even add some of the alternative methods used to add media to feeds. It would be nice to have a feed with the last few additions to the members gallery. The more feeds and pictures you have the more bandwidth it consumes. However its yet another chance to promote pixalo with inward links. It may be a chance for other web sites to use your content to get more inward links. |

Re: RSS picture feeds
Unfortunately, the version of the members gallery that we run doesn't support RSS feeds in any way, so you will have to right click and 'save as' into your screensaver folder to display them.

Re: RSS picture feeds
I have done some simple php scripted rss feeds. I think if you put them through feed burner this does a lot of the hard work of compatability with readers. What I do not know is how you interface to the image library. I could mock up a feed on my site but it would work by reading and parsing your html pages. Not a full bandwidth solution. Is your home page list of "Recent Photos" php ? If so an RSS feed should be no problem. Do you want me to have a go at mocking up something? You will see my server downloading pages from your site.

Re: RSS picture feeds
Following on from this suggestion Pixalo now offers a gallery RSS2 feed. It is not fully validating as that would require the format to include each users email address and we will never display those publically, however it is still fully functional and should provide the data you required
![]() Code:
http://www.pixalo.com/gallery/rss.php?type=rss2 ![]() Have fun ![]()

Re: RSS picture feeds
It's an all or nothing thing OP
. The feed only shares thumbnails, which when clicked on take you through to original shot. So no difference to guests viewing "Recent Shots" on gallery homepage. Do you foresee a problem ? |

Re: RSS picture feeds
nope. just didn't like the idea of pics being pulled lock stock to external sites. which is what could happen if snap2photos' suggestion was implemented
the thumbnail/link thing is fine imo. |

Re: RSS picture feeds
Mmmmm, we need to be careful here, as Orange Peels concerns are valid re full size shots. The current offering allows thumbnails, which are clickable to see full size shot back at Pixalo.
We'll continue to investigate options & get back to you |

Re: RSS picture feeds
I'll jump in here and clarify something. Pixalo has no intentions of streaming the full size pictures from the gallery via RSS feeds either now or in the future, however I must also point out that by displaying any photos on any website that is open to the general public anybody with internet access and half a brain can copy those. They do not need a RSS feed for that
![]() We have gone to great lengths in the past to encourage members to protect their own images by keeping file dimensions and file sizes down, but the general demand by our members has always been for bigger file sizes and larger limits. We can only advise and attempt to explain the implications but ultimately it is up to you how you show your own work after that...we are not here to police or dictate how big you should display your photos for your own protection. With regards to the RSS feed that is currently available, we have no intention of developing it further, howver I am now working on an alternative solution where by there will be an opt in for members who would like their own gallery feed. This new solution will still only offer thumbnails and descriptions etc along the same format as the current feed but return photos from just one members gallery instead of all. The code is not completed yet but I'll update you as I make more progress ![]() Hopefully this goes some way to alleviating your valid concerns? |
