Carrick-a-reade Rope Bridge.

How times change. I took this picture in May 2006 . The first bridge was put here in 1755 to enable fishermen to cross to the island where there was a salmon fishing station. The cottage was for shelter and the fish were caught with a net and a boat as in season they passed through the gap heading for the rivers. This was stopped by the government some years ago and composition paid to preserve salmon stocks. The National Trust took it over and admission was free very few people went there I could not get anyone on the bridge. But now tourism has taken over in Northern Ireland partly because of the weak pound against the euro and dollar and the hoards have arrived . A new stronger bridge has been installed it costs 7 family ticket 17.50 and you have to purchase a timed ticket in advance.
For example this year there will be 93 cruise ships dock in Belfast and they want to see the north Atlantic coast.
Colin.

Chrisa, No I have not been up along the north coast this year. The weather has been so awful we have hardly had a decent day to go anywhere. Besides I tend to avoid it during July and August because of crowds and traffic. The tourist trade has expanded enormously here over the past 2-3 years.
