Re: Cold Sunset

Lovely sky but think it needs a significant upping of the levels to lose that rather muted look

Re: Cold Sunset

BRrrrrrrrrrrr...........thermal long-johns needed here.A great composition and a very nice image but I agree with Markulous.I think, with a bit of work in photoshop, you have a real winner here waiting to 'get out'

Edit: is the horizon leaning to the right a bit?

Re: Cold Sunset

Markulous ... Water... Simpbow: Thanks a bunch for the positive comments.
Yes, the horizon is leaning a bit down to the right ... I'll fix that.
Now about the levels: with CS3, what exactly would you recommend? Lightening up the darks a bit? Something like that?
You guys are more than welcomed to fiddle with this photo as long as you can provide some insights as to what is being done? I would love seeing it differently but it's always nice to know how it has been modified.
In the meantime, I will give it a go.
Thanks again folks!
JP

Re: Cold Sunset

Well I have to say that I rather like the muted colours of the original. It certainly gives a feel of sunset.

However, I have tried a levels tweak and it gave this result:

Opened image in CS3 - CTL+L opens the levels dialogue. This shows a histogram with three triangular sliders underneath. I pulled the right hand slider to the left until it just met the start of the histogram. That's all. I did try playing around with the gamma (centre) slider, that controls the midtones, but was not happy with anything it did. I think that if you want to brighten the bottom part of the image you would have to select it first and apply more levels to it independantly of the rest of the image.

However - I do think that the feel of the picture has changed now.

Thanks Dabhand ...
While you posted the modified version, I did some tweaking as well ... here it is:
But I think your version looks better. !
JP
It won't take my last modification ... to try later. It keeps on showing the original ...
