Dublin Coast

Was going through some old images cos I haven't been out to the coast in a while. Amazing how things look different to you months later, you see something you hadn't originally spotted. So please, tell me what you think and be as harsh as you need to.

Re: Dublin Coast

Hi Conkers, nice ones and no harshness needed. My opinion, for what it's worth,No1 got most of the elements in place,an interesting sky and the 'misty' water from a long exposure [I assume ?].I feel it needs some rocks or an island, something to give it a 'base'.No2 looks good to me,great sky but maybe lighten the shadows on the cliff face a tad? but I bet it looks even more impressive viewed larger.No3,have you used a red filter on the sky ? [either on the lens or in Photoshop] because i feel it's just a bit too red on the blue sky area.No3,with a reduced red sky,is my 'favourite'.Look forward to seeing more of your stuff so keep the pics coming
PS.where were these taken ?

Cheers water, appreciate the input. The first one I deliberately cropped in to have just the 2 elements. I felt the colours were strong enough to have the image as a sort of abstract shot without having extra elements in it but sure, something to anchor the shot might have worked nicely. The second one was a blending of 2 images. One for the sky, one for the foreground. But the problem with the shot I exposed for the foreground was the light was so bright from the sky it created a bleed over the rock and put the edge into shadow. Hence the uneven transition between the 2. I know, should have used grads!! The last one was a grad filter, but a cokin grad with a colour cast problem. The colour cast wasn't that bad mind, the sky was near enough that colour!

Cheers mate.

Oh and they were taken, no.1 - Donabate coast, no.2 - Portmarnock. And the now reappeared no.3 - Malahide.

Re: Dublin Coast

If I was being harsh I'd say #2 and #3 were a little too contrasty and I'd prefer a little more subtle detail in #3 - but the simplicity and colours of #1 overcome any harshness!

@Des @P-E

Thanks lads, appreciate the comments.

@ Markulous

That's the thing, I always do contrasty, just can't seem to tone it back, even a bit..! Cheers for the comments mate. Glad you like the first one.

Re: Dublin Coast

#1 I like the simplicity and mood
#2 I like the comp but the cliffs a bit too dark
#3 I like as well but filter effect on sky a little bit too much

but having said that still a very good set

Re: Dublin Coast

Glad you reinstated #3, I like it the best, it has some of the black I wish one hasn't, although I like dramatic sky's so it's OK . Good light effect on the rocks in #2 After reading some of the other posts again, I'm no sure which one is #1 or #3. My response as #3 is for the cove and #1 the red sky.

#1 Gorgeous colours!
#2 Love this one, very dramatic
#3 Focal point is too dark + needs some detail.

Re: Dublin Coast

Thanks all for the comments. Like I said, they're old photos I was going through and seemed to have missed. I reckon i've learned quite a bit since so i'm looking to go out soon and see what I can do. Now if only this shoddy weather would sort itself out.......!!

Thanks again.
