The Return Continues
Gradually getting back to the type of shot that I like and which the SD14/105mm seems to do pretty well:
#1 Narrow DOF Tried to concentrate on the insect's proboscis as it sipped nectar - maybe a little too shallow? ![]() #2 Butterfly Habitat Do like a shot of butterflies in their environment ![]() ![]() #3 The Antennae This ?wasp had the most elegant and long antennae ![]() #4 Flying Dragon Not truly a macro but it was taken with the Sigma 105mm. We had lots of "fun" (frustrating OOF or just out-of-frame when in focus!) trying to get the Dragonflies - with some reasonably good results (but better with the larger zooms than this lens! )![]() #5 Newt There were a few Newts, juveniles I'd guess from the external gills. all just that little bit too far out and in water just that little bit too deep! Oh well, we'll return when they grow a bit! I think they're Common or Smooth Newts (but could be the much rarer Great Crested as we've communities around here)

These are great images I especially love the first one, IMO the way you composed it works perfectly

Re: The Return Continues
3 x 4.6 - SD10 is 3 x 3.4 (one for each of R, G & B - but no interpolating colours to final image and no anti-aliasing filter unlike Bayers - I'm guessing that's why the cleaner, fresher colours)

Re: The Return Continues
I am most impressed with No. 4 getting any dragon flying is a very difficult thing to do. I have failed amny times. I like the others as well with the exception of 2 the very tatty wings of the butterfly rather spoil that one. That is a strange looking wasp ? I have never seen one like that before.

Here's that fly/wasp: ![]() And apparently it's likely that they are the Great Crested Newt, according to someone's ID - will be back to get more shots of them!
