Call me old fashioned, Collin, but I much prefer to see what the eyes see, all the colours, my choice of course.

Oxo, The original is almost a B&W on it's own. The only colour is the bit of greenery up the side, the red bricks and the yellow lines on the road. The rest B&W.
Does this mean you do not like B&W pictures?

Hi, Collin, I wouldn't say I don't like black and white, I can remember when it was all black and white and people went to great lengths to add a little colour by hand, which was a skill in itself, and when colour photography was finally possible, it was welcomed with open arms because it portrayed what the eye was really seeing, especially subjects such as Landscapes, I look on the majority of the black and white shots that I see, as taking something out of the photo instead of putting something into it, but don't get me wrong, I do enjoy looking at black and white photography, especially the ones that have been done to portray that moody look that suits some shots, but that's only my preference, of course, I hope you did not take my opinion the wrong way.

Re: Dog Walker Rye.

As a black and white photographer, I have to vehmently disagree with oxo - and, to some extent, his reading of photographic history from about 1900 when the first commercial colour film became available, some 40 years after the first colour photo.

ON THIS EXAMPLE though: nice tonal range with two big and one small flaw for me. The lack of foreground makes for an awkward angle with the roads; the curved and leaning in brick wall on the right and left (camera angled up to exclude the foreground?); and the minor flaw the lack of separation of dog and man.

In your position, I'd have taken the door and trellis on the right, or cropped this one at left and right edges. But if you did this, you'd be me...

Re: Dog Walker Rye.

Stephen, I was enjoying a nice cold beer at the time. And as the man was on the move I did not put a lot of thought into such fine detail at the time. The beer was foremost

Re: Dog Walker Rye.

To be honest, I suspected something like this - which is one reason I rarely bother venturing an opinion.

Stephen I think you "Venture" an opinion quite often which is good, but don't forget photography is also about enjoyment.
I can't ever remember seeing one of your pictures on here. So let's have a look.

Re: Dog Walker Rye.

I don't bother as I'm not really into displaying my work on the internet. But if you insist you'll have to explain how to do it, as there is no "upload file" option, only a request for a url - which, as far as I know, none of my images have.

Failing that, I do have some photos om Microsoft OneDrive which can be accessed via this link.

On the whole, I'll leave it at that.

Edited to change reference to OneDrive from old account.

Re: Dog Walker Rye.

Stephen, Thanks for that, you have some lovely B&W images there, pity you don't post some. Graham I am sure would explain how to do this as it is quite simple.
I like your dark contrast style.

Re: Dog Walker Rye.

It would have to be simple for me! All the photos up there are from film; two are from 6x7 and the rest from the larger 5x4 (odd that 5x4 is bigger than 6x7 but the first is inches and the second centimeters). I have a massive backlog of printing from edited photos; editing from developed photos, and a stack of sheets of 5x4 to develop

Thanks for the kind comment.
