Re: Downtown Milwaukee

Welcome to Pixalo Wicks, good to see you posting shots for us to look at

This is an interesting photo with lots of lines making it very abstract. For me the two parts that give me some difficulty are the top of the sculpture which is lost in the darkness and I'd like to see more of, and the burnt out area of light near the bottom. This part has clearly given your camera a bit too much to do with such bright and dark areas to try and expose for.

I did have a look to see if there was any detail near the top part to bring back but there isn't on this compressed version. However, the original has probably got more which you could bring out by duplicating the image onto two layers, lifting the lighting on the sculpture on the top layer and lowering the brightness on the bottom layer. Then either erase or use a layer mask to show the bottom of the lower layer and the sculpture on the upper layer which would balance the picture off a little.

Well done though on seeing the lines here, they do create an image with impact, just needs a bit of work to make it easier on the eye

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Downtown Milwaukee

Hi wicks, don't know how long you've been taking photo's, I've only spent this last year trying to improve my monochrome conversions. I have found them to be a challenge and fun. Other then the whites looking very bright in spots, your photo is very good. It has been said that bright should be bright and a little burn out is not a bad thing,,,but how much depends on how much detail you have in your picture to be shown there in that area. It all looks pretty close, post some more.

Re: Downtown Milwaukee

I like the moody feel the processing bring to this image. The whites are a little blown out but overall it doesn't distract.

Thanks for sharing
