St Peters Dunstable

Continuing my church series, this is The Priory Church of St Peter in Dunstable. Quote from the parish of Dunstable web site
Quote:
The building of the Priory began in 1132. In its heyday it was of cathedral proportions, serving a large Augustinian community. After the dissolution of the monasteries all except the original nave was lost, and its height was also reduced by one third. Even so it is a large and impressive building, full of history.
Wikipedia
Quote:
The Priory Church of St Peter with its monastery (Dunstable Priory) was founded in 1132 by Henry I for Augustinian Canons in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, England.[1] St Peter’s today is a large and impressive building, but this is only the nave of what remains of an originally much larger Augustinian priory church. The monastic buildings consisted of a dormitory for the monks, an infirmary, stables, workshops, bakehouse, brewhouse and buttery. There was also a hostel for pilgrims and travellers, the remains of which is known today as Priory House. Opposite the Priory was one of the royal palaces belonging to Henry I, known as Kingsbury.

Could not make up my mind what works better. Getting the height of the tree in, or the landscape orientation

Re: St Peters Dunstable

#4 looks to me to be the best

#2 and #3 the church is lost behind the tree (and images seem to have no Black Point) and #1 the grass looks oversharpened

Re: St Peters Dunstable

Thanks Mark. I did notice the tree in #2 & 3, () but you just can't get an angle to omit or dodge it or the other trees on that side without getting very close to the church. The other side has no trees, but does have a wall that shields the building. When they are in leaf the church is pretty much totally obscured so I thought that I'd try the peek-a-boo shot.

I've got a reading of 0 on the lamp post and several areas of 15 or under in the shadows which I thought was close enough the the BP. I might try increasing the contrast to see if it improves them although they look OK on my desktop monitor.

They were all sharpened with the same Lightroom pre-set for medium sharpening

LOL! Sorry, meant that the tree is good and contrasty but the building is somewhat faded - though unsure what could be done other than upping the contrast overall

A case for selective sharpening? I often find the fine detail from a WA lens can overwhelm sharpening that looks OK elsewhere in the image

You are probably right. I'll try increasing the contrast and post up the results.

Re: St Peters Dunstable

These two have had both the black point and white point set in curves. BP was the bin at the base of the lamp post, the WP was the patch of cloud on the top RHS. I did notice an overall darkening of the image setting the BP, but hardly any setting the WP.
