Re: Western Hognose

Graham are you like Fiona [ never see her now ] and keep snakes ? I hate the things, what's wrong with a dog ? I remember being at the vets some years ago with my dog and he said to me did you see that man coming out with a cardboard box? I said yes. He had a snake in it and wanted to know what was wrong with it, how would I know? how do you examine a snake. It is not like a dog where you can have a connection and felling for with it. Snakes don't respond.
Colin.

Re: Western Hognose

Thank you for the viewing Chrisa

Colin,
on the contrary they do have personalities & show affection towards an owner!.
I have only got into snakes since this one, (Western Hognose, slightly poisonous), & soon followed by another,(Mexican Black King snake called Hades), who were introduced to the family by me Son .

We have a Dog as you know called Mika, oh and now a kitten called Athena lol.

Meet Hades

Re: Western Hognose

hey im still about now and then great to see another rep keeper.. i actually disagree snakes are incapable to have deeper emotions that basic instictive ones. yes they have preferences but its based on survival. they have no frontal lobe which is where deeper more complex emotions are formed. like love etc. My snakes dont love me they know im a place of safety! lol... Oh and i lso have taken on an owl.... she has special needs so in the process of having a special aviary built for her
Great pics by the way!

Re: Western Hognose

Agreed Fiona,
I didn't say they loved an owner, but used the term "affection", maybe the wrong word?, as in, used to the handling of a person/owner! & they deffo have personalities either via breed or individuals.

The Hognose in our house is very different in temperament to the one in the collage he attends!

As is the Carpet Pythons there.
One's an absolute nightmare, (and always will be), striking & biting, but the other is as placid as anything & can be handled all day?.

The King snake is now a joy to handle & doesn't burry himself in the substrate all the time , thanks to regular contact by my son, (still wary of me though lol).

wow, look forward to some pics of the Owl :0. Kind regards Graham.
