Re: Adobe Lightroom 1.0 - free....
Just downloaded my copy now and printed out my serial number ready for when I have SP2 installed...the adobe site must be getting hammered though as the speed was a touch slow.

Re: Adobe Lightroom 1.0 - free....
You must make a note of the serial number (or copy and paste it to a text file), but you don't have to download LR from that link. You can install the 30-day trial and just enter the s/n from the Help > Registration dialogue. It should give you a green tick at the right hand side. (The download link wasn't working when I tried it yesterday, but I already had the trial installed.)
It's a good idea to uninstall the beta version first, from Control Panel, and then look under Program Files and Application Data to clear out any LR stuff that's left behind. Provided you keep the library data files (under My Pictures), the new version should automatically rebuild the database during install, and keep all your settings. Initial reaction to v1.0 has been rather mixed. Some people have had it crashing on them, but so far it hasn't misbehaved for me. That's tempting fate!

Re: Adobe Lightroom 1.0 - free....
Thanks for adding that Silkstone. As you say, my reactions are mixed at the moment. I want to give it a chance but so far am not enamoured. Mine is stable but slow to build thumbs etc (and I have 2gb ram). Main gripe though - I'm not sure what it is trying to do. Is it supposed to be an all in one, organise, view, edit etc because if it is, it falls short in all three. At the moment I'm not tempted to ditch my current process which is Rawshooter, Bridge and CS2 - at least while I have my 30D and thats likely to be a while yet.

Re: Adobe Lightroom 1.0 - free....
I think that the ultimate goal is for LR to be an all-in-one application, but at the moment there are some things it does well and others are lacking. You either love or hate the Library front end - it depends on whether you really want to use LR for asset management.
Some aspects of the Develop module are very good - colour and tonal control - but others such as noise reduction and sharpening are generally poor compared with the competition. There's no lens or perspective distortion correction in v1.0 - those may be added in v2.0, at a price. ![]() Slightly OT... I'm keeping an open mind until the release of Bibble 5.0. There are a couple of flaws in the current version which put me off it, but overall it could suit me better than LR and the support is extremely good through the Bibble forums. Another advantage of Bibble is that it will also run under Mac and Linux. I'm very anti Vista and this message is being typed on a Linux machine with Bibble and the GIMP installed. Despite being my old PC with 'only' a 2.4GHz processor, everything runs faster under Linux than on my new dual-core machine under Win XP.
