Press Release:
Reports by the gadget website claim that an insider at Best Buy website leaked information of the release date for the 40D as being set for 2nd September in the US.. The much anticipated follow up to the 30D is said to have all the features previously revealed with the additions of the DIGIC III Image Processor, dust removal system, true spot metering and five frames per second burst rate. The estimated price for the 40D is $1, 599, which is approximately £800 GBP. Electronista have three items on the Canon 40D: Wednesday, July 18th Canon EOS-40D finally on verge of release? Canon's long-rumored EOS-40D may finally be nearing a proper announcement. The camera is one of many listed as PictBridge-certified on the CIPA (Camera and Imaging Products Association) website, and more importantly, it is distinguished from the EOS-400D, also known as the Rebel XTi. The 40D has been discussed in various forms since 2006; it would be an upgrade to the current EOS-30D (pictured), a professional-level DSLR with an 8.2-megapixel sensor. This is the likely reason for an upgrade, since even the XTi has 10.1 megapixels, and the rival D200 by Nikon has 10.2 megapixels. 08/03/2007, 12:50pm, EDT Friday, August 3rd Canon EOS-40D photos, features leaked Details and photos have leaked today regarding the EOS-40D, the widely expected sequel to Canon's 30D entry pro DSLR camera. In spite of likely costing much less than the $3,999 flagship EOS-1D Mark III, the 40D will include a full three auto-exposure priority modes (aperture, depth-of-field, and shutter) as well as the 1D's quarter-resolution sRAW mode which captures uncompressed photos at a faster rate and without the larger file size. Earlier reports also claim the camera will have a similar 10-megapixel sensor with a dust removal system, a three-inch LCD with live previews, and a sustained shooting speed of at least five and potentially over six frames per second. The release date for the camera is uncertain, but multiple sources point to a 40D unveiling the week of August 20th, potentially as early as Monday but no later than Thursday the 23rd. Actual shipping would take place in September or October, and the prices for body-only and kit versions are unknown. Wednesday, August 8th Best Buy leak confirms Canon 40D for September Canon expects to release its hotly anticipated EOS-40D digital SLR early next month, says an insider at Best Buy that leaked the camera's stocking info and UPC code. The camera is now due to reach shelves by September 2nd and is now known to have all the features previously revealed through early leaks as well as minor new additions: the 40D picks up the more recent DIGIC III imaging processor absent from the 30D and will also borrow several features from other cameras in the EOS line, ranging from the dust removal system, true spot metering, and a five frames per second burst rate. Best Buy claims it will have the camera in stock on September 2nd at a price of $1,599, which is anticipated as the official retail price for most other stores. No confirmation has been given of the inclusion of a kit lens at the official price. Electronista

Re: Canon 40D release on September 2nd rumours
So if the leaks on spec & price are right, how many Canon owners are tempted to buy one ?

Live preview, dust removal etc.......these sorts of features really don't interest me so I think I will be sticking with what I've got

Re: Canon 40D release on September 2nd rumours
No interest to me either if the spec that people are guessing is correct.
Faster frame rate would be nice to have but the main things missing off the mid range Canon cameras are weather sealing and ISO display in the viewfinder. The DIGIC III processor would also be welcomed too as that brings faster processing and lower noise to the already superb noise levels seen in Canon cameras. If they take the 30D add in those extra features and keep the body about the same size plus make the price competitive, then the 40D would be an attractive upgrade for me.

Until they put an APS-H sensor in, I won't be upgrading.

Re: Canon 40D release on September 2nd rumours
Having gone from the 10D to the 30D, I think I'll skip this step and wait another couple of years.
I don't need and don't really want a larger sensor - 8MP is plenty for me at the moment. The built-in dust removal is a good idea if it works, but they'll have to do a lot better than on the 400D for that to be the case. One big attraction is the live LCD preview which I have on an old Canon G2. It's great for low level or overhead shots, but it needs a twist and rotate screen to be of real use, and there isn't one. So no deal there either. ![]() I think I've just saved myself £800. ![]() |

Re: Canon 40D release on September 2nd rumours
As seems likely I'll become a Canoneer, it'll probably be the 30D I'll go for - so anything that lowers it's price can only be good.
And whilst I know it's a step down to a 30D from my SD10, I think it has more than enough unecessary buttons/bells/whistles without being encumbered by even more - which appear to be even more unecessary! |

I'll be waiting for reviews first to make sure there's nothing drastically wrong with it, but hopefully it'll follow the 1Ds mk.III with even better noise control at high ISO... however, if it added weather sealing and a slightly higher shutter speed would make it absolutely perfect for me! We'll find out soon enough I guess ![]() |
