Firmware updates for Canon 1D mkIII and 1Ds mkIII

EOS-1D Mark III Firmware Update Version 1.2.3

Firmware Changes

This firmware update (Version 1.2.3) incorporates the following improvements.

1. Includes the following new features that were frequently requested by customers to the new firmware.
1. Direct selection of AF points by the Multi-controller is added to C.Fn III-9.
2. Alternate access to Exposure compensation is added to C.Fn IV-3.
3. With the camera’s External Speedlite control menu, Flash function settings can be used to set the Wireless setting and Zoom.
2. Improves the stability of AF accuracy in AI servo AF when shooting extremely low-contrast subjects.

The Version 1.2.3 firmware being released this time is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.1.3. If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.2.3, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

2. Improves the stability of AF accuracy in AI servo AF when shooting extremely low-contrast subjects.

The Version 1.1.2 firmware being released this time is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.0.6. If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.1.2, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

Seen an interesting although subjective sports shoot out with the latest firmware V the Nikon D3.......

Canon 1DMKIII with latest firmware and fix - Overall average out of focus 31%

Nikon D3 with latest firmware - Overall average out of focus 48%

The author/photographer of the article then went on to say........

Does this mean that overall I like Canon 1D MKIII better than Nikon D3?
No. It simply means that Canon still outperforms Nikon in this autofocus category. The Canon 1D MKIII is a great camera. However, my time with the D3 has led me to seriously question whether I would stick with Canon in the future. I really like the Nikon D3. Some advantages of the Nikon D3 over the Canon 1D MKIII for my type of photography are the increased iso range, the increased resolution of the lcd screen, and the ease of setting custom white balance.

I saw that too Ian, and I thought that the test and the conclusion ended up all rather inconsequential tbh...
Also, 48% OOF with the D3? They can't be doing everything right!
