Post Lowepro straps for SLRs

Press Release
Speedster is Lowepro’s most compact, lightweight and flexible strap and is manufactured from woven nylon stitched with an anti-slip rubber thread to ensure it remains in place. With two side release buckles and double-ladder locks to ensure camera stability, the Speedster will keep cameras secure even when photographers are on the move.

Transporter has been designed with maximum flexibility in mind. The sliding neck strap ensures that the padded support section remains in place whilst adjusting the straps to the desired length. And the detachable memory card wallet allows photographers to keep extra cards accessible at all times.

The two Voyager straps are aimed at adventure photographers who carry equipment for long periods of time. Made of Neoprene to give a soft, breathable surface, the Voyager S and Voyager C straps evenly distribute the camera weight around the neck and shoulders to make extended use with heavy camera equipment more comfortable. Voyager S allows photographers to sling cameras across their chest whereas Voyager C has a contoured design for those who prefer to carry equipment around their neck or over their shoulder.

Available from mid-July, the RRPs are as follows: Speedster - £14, Transporter - £16, Voyager S - £17, Voyager C - £17.

Re: Lowepro straps for SLRs

My 1st generation LowePro neoprene straps have served both my cameras well to date BUT their old anti-slip dots aren't up to the task when I'm wearing certain fabrics... I hope that the new anti-slip thread that has been sewen into the underside of these second generation straps does a better job of it.

For what it's worth, I'll probably elect for the Voyager C type strap, though I'm drawn towards the Speedster strap for PJ use. Once I find somewhere that stocks them, I'll prize open the wallet and later let folks know how good (or not) they are

Re: Lowepro straps for SLRs

I've been thinking about getting one of the Op/Tech straps but I think I'll wait and see what these turn out like before ordering. I'd idealy like a strap that holds the camera but also provides some sort of support for a heavy lens that's attached to it, don't know if there is any like that though.

...If you do decide to get one of these Viking I'd be very interested in hearing your views on it

Re: Lowepro straps for SLRs

Sonsey;

When you say "heavy lens", what sort of body/lens combo are you talking about?

My current Lowepro straps take the strain of a D2X, SB-800 and 70-200VR lens on a regular basis... going by the Nikon UK product guides, that's over 3kg of kit and they keep on trucking just fine. I'm certain that Lowepro's new straps will be just as capable.

Do bear in mind that a good many consumer oriented dSLR's have simple plastic based lens mounts that won't take as much strain as pro dSLR's metal lens mounts.

For what it's worth - if you're carrying any larger body/lens combo, you should really be using a monopod on the lens tripod collar - or have your carry strap attach to the collar of said lens.

I'm using the Canon 350D + grip with the 100-400L IS attached so no heavier than what you carry, but I'm not concerned that the strap wouldn't be able to hold it, more that I would like a strap that I could attach to both the camera and lens at the same time so as to minimise the strain on the camera and lens mounting... they're both metal, but I still worry
