Re: Phase One releases Capture One 4 Beta

First impressions with this is that it looks rather nice with some nice little tools, namely the 'High Dynamic Range' option.....which basically is just a separate 'shadow' & 'highlight' slider but it does a nice job.

I find it very buggy though and I'm unable to open all my images from a card reader

Re: Phase One releases Capture One 4 Beta

Beta version 2 has now been released;

Release notes for Capture One 4 beta 2
Introduction
Capture One 4 is a new generation RAW workflow solution that enables professional
photographers to make the most of their images.
The workflow orientation is still high in Capture One, and the simplified new user
interface leaves more of the screen area to your images.
Providing best possible image quality is still a cornerstone of Capture One. New tools
for this and improved “out-of-the-box” results are part of the new Capture One 4.
Capture One 4 is still in the making, these release notes are for the beta version of the
application.
What’s new from version 3.7.x
Capture One 4 is the successor of 3.x LE, and is a major upgrade from this. This new
generation of Capture One builds upon the feature set of its predecessor.
The features already found in 3.x LE have been improved and new have been added.
Capture One 4 is a completely re-written application, building on new technologies, a
new architecture and what users found best from previous generations of Capture One.

What’s new from beta 1
This is a non-exhaustive list of issues we have solved with beta 2:
 Viewer adjustable background (Windows only)
 Importer (new on Windows)
 Improved, brighter and larger icons
 Better file management (drag and drop, rename, delete)
 More room for sliders (min max labels have been removed)
Capture One 4 beta 2 now runs on Windows Vista 64-bit edition and on Mac OS X
Leopard.
Highlighted features
Even in this beta state Capture One 4 includes a number of new and updated features,
some of which will be introduced below:
 High Dynamic Range
o Easy recovery of details in highlights and shadows in images with a high
dynamic range
 Variants
o Experiment with different looks from one RAW image with virtually no disk
and performance overhead
 Web contact sheet
o Set up theme-based web contact sheets to share work with clients
 Multiple up viewing
o View up to 12 images, full resolution simultaneously in the new Viewer
Many more features are included in Capture One 4, be sure to try it out!

About the beta
Capture One 4 is still under development, but this beta version will give you an idea of
what’s to come. You can this beta for free until January 31, 2008. The beta can be
downloaded from Phase One’s website.
Capture One 4 beta 2 is available in an English version only and is provided as is.
You can help us improve Capture One 4. During the beta period you can on-line submit
reports to Phase One on bugs you find from within the Capture One application. In
Capture One for Windows you can submit a bug report from the “Help” menu. In
Capture One for Mac you can submit a bug report from the “Capture One” menu.
Since the application is in beta, there are some important observations you should take
note of:
- Phase One does not recommend using the beta software in your production
environment.
- Phase One does not provide any support on the beta software.
- Phase One disclaims any and all liability related directly and indirectly to your use of
this beta software.

System requirements
Capture One 4 may run on older equipment but to ensure the best possible results we
recommend that your computer conforms to the specifications below:

Microsoft® Windows®:
• Intel® Pentium® 4 or equivalent
• 768 MB of RAM
• 1 GB of free hard disk space
• Calibrated color monitor with 1024 x 768, 24 bit resolution
• Windows XP®, service pack 2 or
• Windows Vista®
• You will need the Microsoft® .NET Framework version 3.0 redistributable
package to run Capture One for Windows. If you do not have it already on your
machine, Capture One will initiate installation hereof. You can also download it and
install it yourself from Microsoft’s website.
