Calling all wildlife and nature photography enthusiasts - you will be interested to know that
The official website for Skye, Lochalsh and Raasay in the north west of Scotland is sponsoring a competition on
BBC Wildlife Magazine to win a unique break on the Isle of Skye.
Otters, seals, dolphins, whales, pine martins, deer, over 240 bird species, including corncrakes and eagles, orchids, saxifrages, insect eating sundews, ferns and the rare mountain aven are just some of the flora and fauna, which thrive on the magnificent rugged landscape, pure air and sparkling waters of the Isle of Skye.
This is your chance to win a week on this world-renowned beautiful Island, where you can explore the natural environment 'til your heart's content.
You will stay in The Foresters Cottage, which nestles in the trees close to Armadale Castle Gardens on the South Skye Sleat peninsula, also known as the Garden of Skye. As a guest, you are free explore the Castle Gardens and the hills of the Clan Donald Lands Trust 20,000 acre estate where nature abounds and breathtaking landscapes, seaviews, woodland walks and Highland paths await.
One of the high points of your week will surely be a personal guided walk with the local Highland Council Ranger around one of Skye's Special Areas of Conservation. You will visit an abandoned village, whose inhabitants were evicted during the Highland clearances in 1853, exploring the diverse geology, flora and fauna along the way.
