The Choir (Band)

Thurs April 30, a friend of mine treated me to a concert in Livonia, Michigan. At Trinity House Theater. a 96 seat venue in an old church building.

Photography allowed.. So I took along my dSLR and one of my sleeper lenses: My 70-210AF F4 constant aperture..

Shot wide open all night, 6400 ISO, F4

Very little editing was done or needed. Highlights bumped down a bit to bring back detail in the instruments. and some white balance correcting to make their skin look skin colored instead of the color cast of the stage lights.. I'm very pleased with how the D800 performs in low light.. And there's very little in this world that would get me to let go of that 70-210AF lens. It gave me beautiful results..

I'm afraid this has tickled a bug in me to want to do more of this kind of shooting.. I mentioned this to my buddy who is pretty pleased, says he'll have someone to go to shows at this theatre with now

A two photo pano showing their set. Unfortunately the sax/lyricon player was covered up by the bass guitarist.

The back two figures are my friend and his son with the band in the foreground..

He normally is the only one there taking pictures so he never is in the shots. This time I offered to take a group shot of him with the band after the show.

I was exhausted part way into the show. More activity than I am used to given my medical situation.. But it was worth it..

The whole 51 image set can be seen (for now) In higher res but watermarked, at:

You're welcome to mess with them remix them or whatever if you'd like.. I've been thinking about B&W on a few of them...

Thank you!

yeah they made the variable aperture after discontinuing the 70-210 F4. Made it cheaper, etc.. Good lens but not quite what this one is..

I was hunting this lens for a couple years. Finally found a pristine barely used one on eBay for $125 buy it now. Person didn't really know what they had, as other copies with a lot of use and marks were selling for $250 at the time..
