Teresa

My wife was not too keen to be a model for the night for me but I wanted to try out some new portrait styles.

I quite like this one.

Re: Teresa

I like this as well,I could never take a shot like this as my wife can shut her eyes faster than the shutter can take the picture even if I don't tell her when I press the button

I know what you mean. Most of the time my wife had a dodgy smile or even worse a completely unnatural straight face.

The pictures were taken 'between poses'!

Re: Teresa

Nice lo key shot Jason. Would like to see one with her looking at the camera and a tad more light on the dark side - from a reflector perhaps.

On my screen I can only see her face. When I scroll down, I think that if I could see the whole shot, the light bottom part of the picture would be a draw on the eye, but as I can't see the whole image, that is only a guess.

We did also take this one for you Graham.

And it is a bit smaller for your screen! A personal service!

Re: Teresa

Thank you

I think I prefer this one with the minor nit that I don't like the shadow that obscures her left eye. Again a touch of fill - even in the lo key shot - or a reflector would just keep the detail.

Re: Teresa

I agree about a reflector, a most underrated accessory

Re: Teresa

The shadowed side was very intentional. I have a negative fill reflector to her side i.e. a black one. It was literally held against her right shoulder.

I wanted half of her face in shadow which is why I like the first one better. I only used a single flash on 1/3 power.

The shadows on her left eye on the second shot was without the negative reflector but the flash could've been a little better placed to stop that shadow. The shadow was actually from light bouncing off the wall to her right.

I'll keep trying
