Re: 3 Heads & a bud.
Not bad attempt Shane, for me though the composition isn't quite right and a slightly different angle might of improved this. The red/orange flower at the rear is a little distracting too. But all in all its pretty, good colours and some good detail in the petals

Re: 3 Heads & a bud.
I agree with Stupot. I think a lower viewpoint would've been better + all of the flowers in sharp focus, but block out the bud at the back (and change the title
) as 3 is a good number to have in a composition, + I think you'd be hard pressed to get the bud in focus as well anyway. Also it needs a softer light for softer shadows + lower contrast, as the folds on the white petals are too bright in relation to the other two roses which came out very nicely ref tones. Ref the BG: the fence is a bit distracting for me, + the foliage looks very dark as a result of the high contrast within the scene. Sounds like a lot of crits, but don't worry ... (a) it's better than my first flower shots, + (b) flowers are tricky, so stay with it

Cheers Charlotte that was a great help, gives me alot of info to go on & what to look out for the next time, gives me something different to do from landscapes when the sky sucks.

Re: 3 Heads & a bud.
yes agree with Charlotte a lower viewpoint would would work here, also a much higher one where your looking right down on the petals and a tight crop would work i think, you would have to experiment with your position around the flowers so you dont include your own shadow!
I've not done much of this stuff myself so i'm no expert Shane yours looks a good first attempt, i must try some of this myself with flowers in bloom everywhere there's no excuse really

Re: 3 Heads & a bud.
re: the title....I agree with charlotte's comments completely about the image, plus I was looking for three guys in a bar drinking a budweiser. I am sorely disappointed.

Re: 3 Heads & a bud.
You were asking a lot of your camera to meter this shot, the light pale colour of the central heads and the strong orange of the side heads means the camera has to go for a happy medium.
I would suggest you stop down slightly to avoid any blown highlights on the central heads and position a small reflector out of shot to push some natural light back into the shadow area on the darker head on the left, this will neutralise the light between the two much more effectively and give your camera a fighting chance of balancing the light between the shots light and dark areas. Cheers, Rob
