Abandoned-Revisited
Just got CS2 and I'm trying to figure it all out, lol This is my first play with it and would like some feedback from everyone. Did some dodging/burning/cloning alone the bottom right hand corner. There was a sidewalk there. Colour balance, and a sharpen is all of it me thinks, lol

Re: Abandoned-Revisited
Hi Jewel - happy New Year! Good to see you again
I really like the subject and I think you have done quite a good job here. The only thing I would suggest that gives the game away are the 'repeat patterns' where you have cloned the sidewalk. I can see duplicated elements and what appears to be a diamond pattern in this area. The trick with cloning is to keep changing the sample point to ensure that a truly random result is obtained. You will still need to match the texture and colour, but keep an eye out for obviouly duplicated areas. For your first go you ought to be well pleased with this. Well done

Re: Abandoned-Revisited
Very interesting contrast of bright chrome and rust on the front of this truck. You don't usually see chrome in such good condition on an old rust bucket like this. If you had the opportunity, another shot might be to isolate the front of the truck against that brick wall. It would give you a simple composition with few distracting elements and bring focus on that odd juxtaposition of chrome and rust.

Re: Abandoned-Revisited
I think I would use the pen tool in PS to select the truck, and copy that to a new layer. Then do a graduated blut on the background making it more blurred as it recedes. This would make the truck stand out more and could be a very eye-catchng picture.
You've got your Image Edit button showing so I have had a little play to show you what I mean. I have tried not to do too much as I didn't want to make it look over-processed but I have added a gradual blur and also lowered the saturation a touch on the BG so that the lorry stands out from the walls more. See what you think anyway. ![]() Cheers, Rob

Re: Abandoned-Revisited
ROB, I LIKE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE WITH THIS PICTURE.
HOW DO YOU GET IT TO HAVE A SHADOW BEHIND IT, I PROBABLY HAVEN'T EXPLAINED THAT RIGHT, WHAT I MEAN IS THE PICTURE LOOKS LIKE YOU CAN PICK IT UP. HOW IS THIS DONE AND CAN IT BE DONE IN ELEMENTS. THANK YOU SOTELO, I LIKE THE WAY YOU HAVE FRAMED THIS WITH, CLASSIC TRUCK TEXT |

Re: Abandoned-Revisited
Hi Woody,
Yes you can do that in Elements. Here's what to do.... ~ Open your picture. Copy it to a new layer (just press Ctrl+J) ~ Add a new layer in between these two layers. ~ Highlight the empty layer on the Layers pallet. Now add a couple of centimetres all round to the canvas size. This will be somewhere in the Image Edit section. If same as PS it will be alt+ctrl+C. ~ Fill this layer with white (keyboard shortcuts: press D then X then G then click anywhere on the empty layer )~ Now highlight the top layer. Now you just want to add a Drop Shadow. In PS you can either do this from the layers pallet or from the menus using Layer Style > Drop Shadow. It will be somewhere like that in Elements. ~ Set the shadow angle and depth and things with the sliders (you can see what is happening as you do it) ~ finally flatten the entire image using Layers . Flatten Layers. There you go. Hope that works for you Woody. Any problems, feel free to shout, you know where I am. ![]() Cheers, Rob |

Re: Abandoned-Revisited
Sotelo, Interesting version. The HDR certainly makes the truck stand out. Not sure about the blurring though as you have applied it to all of the picture except the truck which means the FG area and the area under the truck is also blurred.
Definitely agree that a bit of blurring of the BG hels the truck to stand out more ![]() Cheers, Rob |
