Re: Abstraction
A staircase....
took me a few seconds to get it. A good strong image with textures. I thought the left hand side was a giant chess-piece at first.

Re: Abstraction
Not sure about it Mark tbh. I did go in closer on some of the shots, and they came out very similarly to yours, but the thing I really like about the original is the gradation of dark tones up the step interspersed with the same continual light tone, and the slightly 'sweeping' feel to the way the shadows spread out which I rather liked. Thanks for the idea though

Re: Abstraction
I like it Jack, I think the shadows on the carpet make it, as Stephano said good texture. Not keen on the crop Mark it makes it stumpy.

Re: Abstraction
Thanks for the comments, I did actually set up the shadows on the carpet, triggering the SB800 wirelessly from the side, and used 'active D-Lighting' to achieve detail in both ranges of the exposure, otherwise the shadows were black.

Re: Abstraction
Jack, best thing you have shown on here. I love the shot and the original crop. Since you set this up, good idea well executed.
There is one very minor point...but I'm not going to mention it! Staying positive! |

Re: Abstraction
I had a secret idea about what you might say when my email popped up to tell me you'd replied, and I was right
Thanks for the praise, interested to hear that you think it's the best I've posted, but I can see why from your viewpoint, and I like it too. As per the negative, can I hear it? I can take crit, you know that Is it about cropping a little off the top?

Re: Abstraction
lol. Fair enough Les, although I did not say don't post improvements / suggestions. I meant post more compliments, then tear it to shreds
(so to speak, otherwise it'd be a contradiction.... )
