Re: Action Shot

Nice and crisp and great colours as well as action ... but ...

For me these shots of skilled riders grabbing some air always look better with plain air for a back-drop ... focus is then only on the subject without distracting background ... especially when not oof with effective DoF ? IMO !

Sorry ... you did ask and it is in Critique rather than Sharing and these are just my own thoughts on the subject !

Re: Action Shot

Nice capture, but as above comments. The only other thing that bothers me is the fact that he looks oloder than me!!!!!!!

Re: Action Shot

Great capture & the line from the back wheel to the handle bars make a nice diagonal in the photo, enhancing composition.

Have you got anymore shots to share. Have a look at posting some under the gallery section of "sport" also.

Re: Action Shot

Welcome to the site

It’s a good opening shot but as always, there is room to improve…

As the others have said the focus is spot on but this is an action shot and its totally motionless. The shutter speed used has frozen all the movement in both the rider and the background. While I agree on the whole with Venomator about plain backgrounds, ones like this can also work very well if they are blurred to enhance the sense of movement of the subject, to get a shot to work like that though you have to loose all the detail by using a small F stop and panning with the subject. If done correctly you can still get a totally in focus subject (rider in this case) and a very effective sense of movement from the blurred and out of focus background.

Hope that helps

Re: Action Shot

Thanks for the comments, as this was my first time shooting sports / action i was concentrating more on getting everything as sharp and in focus as possible.
Background unfortunately was more to do with constraints rather than choice.
Held at a local country park the area was surrounded on 3 sides by trees and th fourth side by burger vans, etc. Had to take all the pics at 70mm as the stunt area was very small and using anything over 70mm was proving to be very difficult.

Re: Action Shot

The hardest thing about sports photography is predicting where or tracking the subjects so that they are in frame when you press the shutter, even the pro's don't get it right all the time. If possible next time try to reduce your shutter speed and 'track' the subjects as you take the photos, this should introduce some movement to the backgrounds and make the shots much more exciting

For a first attempt you have done a very good job
