Re: After the rain

I like this one. The detail in the cars and houses from the light makes it for me, so in spite of the glorious sky colour I think it is a stronger image cropped to just above the roof of the van on the LHS and then clone out the highlights from the roofs of the houses that are forming a sort of V shape and the single light on the LHS just below the LH roof highlight and the highlight over the car on the RHS. I'd also make sure that there is no sky showing at the top right of centre where the tree line is.

Re: After the rain

As you have your editing OK showing, something like this

I've tried to take any detail out from the houses, but it could work with some detail showing - a bit more than your original. not got any proper editing software on thei laptop so did this in the good old 'Faststone Image viewer.

Like this

Think I prefer my first one.

Re: After the rain

I like the crop and going to play.
It looses some of the original feel of the photo but
Re ignites a different view of it.

Re: After the rain

I like the original image best for composition, but I would go along with Graham as regards cloning out some of the highlights. The wet road just makes the picture, it would not have the same impact if the street had been dry.

Re: After the rain

Personally, I'd keep the composition - the sun/sky provides both context and substance to the image. Normally, I'd argue against what I've done: remove the telephone cables. But removing the one thing that distracted from the remainder seems to improve - and I love the rooftops/silhouettes/aerials. I also lightened the shadows

Re: After the rain

Love the look markulous.
I left the pole as it created a web of triangles but it looks great without too.
I have now seen two views of this shot and both are great in there own right.

Thanks guys.

Re: After the rain

Hard to compare the two as they are so far apart. But the lightened shadows are a definite improvement. In the first picture I don't mind the pole and wires at all, they are part of the street scene and add to what is a fairly bare sky, it is just a matter of choice if you like them or not. The usual practice is to remove wires etc. but in this case I think they are OK to keep.

Re: After the rain

It's all nitpicking of a good shot. It's OK as it is with the exception of the blown bit of sky. There are many photos in this one - a silhouette, a mono, an old photo, perspective, urban.

I wonder what it would have been like if you took it just after the sun went behind the trees? TFS.

Re: After the rain

I think I have that shot. But at a different angle.
But due to the lack of sun the reflection is decreased.
Will try to post later.
