An afternoon in Liverpool (56k warning)

I was hoping for a proper blue skies and sunshine day, but instead we got sunshine and haze. Still, it was a great afternoon. I'm really starting to enjoy spending a few hours just walking around Liverpool.

I got quite a few strange looks;

I got mooned, photographed by a Chav on his Nokia, and photographed by some girl on her digital camera. Quite a few people did seem to like being photographed.

I was tempted to use the following for the competition, but I felt it was too obvious. A big sign saying "Street"

I carried on walking around and tried to shoot from the hip a bit. I think this one worked the best.

Theres something odd about it that I like.

For some bizzare reason some kid decided he needed to carry a gas mask.

"Sleeping Beauty" outside the Cavern on Matthew Street.

We then made our way down to the river to capture whatever was there really.

I was lucky enough to just capture this pigeon in flight.

Then some cyclists. That is the sun in the street lamp.

She couldn't have stopped in a better position.

Then just as I was about to finally put the camera away, I turned around and saw this.

All but the last taken with my 50mm. I decided to restrict myself to that lens to force myself to get closer to people.

Nice shots Peter. A bit contrasty though, you're losing detail in a lot of the shadows in the street shots.

I like them, especially the silhouette shots. The others are good too, I wish I was brave enough.

Thanks Its always odd for me when people say they're not brave enough to take the shots I took as I'm very very shy I just find that having my camera makes me able to do things I couldn't do normally.

There are some great shots here. Most of the street ones looked a little snappy for me, but i did like the 4th one. That one would make a great album cover or magazine fashion page (just a little more detail needed in his jacket for fashion though)!

The last 4 i really like, and my favourite 2 would be the first and last ones (of the bottom 4). The first one, i like the feeling of freedom the pidgeon gives off and i the last one IMO is brilliantly composed although i would like to have just a little more detail in the lower right corner, but i am imagining on the full sized version it has. The other 2 are still v.good.

Nice shots! Well taken!

Thanks We were so lucky with the last shot. Perfect timing to be in the right place for the angle of the sun.

Yer exactly. I love photography competitions because they help me go places and do things I would never do normally. I never used to just walk around Liverpool, but now I'm finding its a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Plus, although it hasn't happened yet, I'm sure its a great way to meet girls
