Aimee
This is only the second time Aimee has modeled, great girl to work with, all she did was giggle, so we had a really good laugh. This is more of a lad mag image i was going for. David

Re: Aimee
I'm finding it harder and harder to find much to say about these shots David. They are all 'of a type' and as you said yourself, I am sure it would be appreciated in 'a lad mag'. Your lighting is nearly always very good indeed with excellent skintones and so forth and there isn't much left to be said about the poses. Best I can think of to say is 'can't figure what the string in her mouth is all about' but I don't suppose that matters one jot one way or the other.
It's very hard to critique these now as I think pretty much everything that can be said about them has been said. I am sure 'nice pic' isn't the critique you're after but can't think what else to offer, sorry. Cheers, Rob

Re: Aimee
Hi Rob, i fully understand what you are saying, thats why ive decided to stop putting anymore pic's up on here, You, Fi and skip and maybe a few others are usually the only ones who do try and give me critique, Ive been thinking about it for a while now,
Thanks again for all your comments on my pictures and it has helped me a lot. I will still be coming on this site but not putting up any pic's. David |

Re: Aimee
Well David, I've been looking through some of your images and if you don't mind me saying, I can certainly see substantial development since you started posting these shots, particularly in the area of lighting and improved posing.
It would be a shame if you stopped posting all together but perhaps you could just post the ones that you think are of particular note with maybe a bit more explanation of what you were trying to achieve, how you approached it and why you like it. I think that may help some of the less experienced members who are interested in this kind of photography. Perhaps also you may branch out a bit more? Your mother and baby shot was an excellent example of a different kind of image that used the same technical skills that you've developed and I think it's the image of your I personally liked the most. cheers Dan

Re: Aimee
On a personal level David, I'd support what Danpen said. I can appreciate your frustration on not getting the feedback you would like, but Danpen has hit on a very important point that you may have overlooked. Your lighting setups are as good as they get. Other people have probably been inspired to emulate your techniques, and you have great experience in this field that you can use to help others.
Perhaps the answer lies in posting similar images less frequently. That way, you might get more feedback than you do currently. I'm sure your contributions would be missed if you stop posting.

Re: Aimee
I always look at your threads, because I have become accustomed to seeing well lit, very well executed shots from you; and I think that maybe you don't need any more constructive crit. because you know where you're going. The only reason I don't post is because they are often in critique, and I don't at all feel in the position to comment, seeing as my attempts are amateur in comparison...
I agree however, that it would be a shame to lose all your shots, so like saiad maybe post the ones or particular note or of a differing genre. Good luck! Jack

Re: Aimee
1) Dammit guys - I have said many times before that anyone can critique what they see, regardless of their photographic experience. If not on a strictly technical level, then on an emotive level. Do they like what they see? If so or if not, why? That is something that every person who looks at art can do.
2) I write only for me, Dave, but probably everyone feels the same way. We would hate to lose you from pixalo. Your images are always good, and we quibble about the pose and the models involvement, but that is minor, I suppose. 3) Personally, I would really like to know the purpose in your shots. Are they for your personal growth? For your portfolio? For the models portfolio? Commercial shots? Because that shades what I think of them. 4) Also, I have complained often about the lack of feedback, to no avail. That is just the nature of the sites. But if you get good feedback from a few good (?) people , then isn't it worth it? Again, one problem is that your images are uniformly good and there is becoming less new to say. Sad that we develop our style so well that when one looks at a pic, one thinks, good image, like all the others. So finally, a plea not to abandon a worthwhile site for both you and us. skip |

Re: Aimee
Looks like the ftmftm fan club is in full swing, David. You can't deny your public their share of you!
But skipper has a valid point. Your shots are so good that any critique is going to be nit-picking. I'm not too sure what you are looking for now you have refined your technique to where it is now. If you are going to expand your horizons you will obviously benefit from more feedback. But in your style that we all know, maybe you can get feedback for the benefit of your models, some of them need to be told that it is not enough to be good looking, they need to engage with the viewer to make a real impact. Perhaps it is your direction of them that needs to be sharpened, and the feedback can help you in this area if we all say the model is not communicating. |

Re: Aimee
But Dab, if Dave is doing images for the models book, and she wants to do runway or fashion or product, then for the most part she shouldn't engage the camera. The image is not about the model but about the clothes, jewelry, etc.
If she is doing glamour, then yes. A rough rule of thumb is: fashion - don't look at the camera. Glamour - look at the cam. skip |

Re: Aimee
Agree with you Skip. But how many of David's models are selling clothes or shoes? Perhaps some of these sort of shots would mix things up a bit, and get more feedback.
