a wee while ago i posted a shot of a train ride
hope fully i have taken what was said on board and although i have not converted this to mono i "think" its an improvement..............

Actually,I preferred the other one.Much more moody/atmospheric.This reminds me of the shots I took on the North York Moors Steam Railway which are ok for what they are.See here for an example but your Mono was a lot more interesting for me:

Yes this one is much better

I like the composition + detail. Colours + tones seem rather flat though

I think that with a contrast + colour boost, then this would 'pop' quite nicely.

charlotte i deliberately desaturated the colours to give it a olde worlde feel to it as there was nothing else modern in the shot.

Hmmm would an overall sepia tone work better in that regard? TBH this doesn't really look olde worlde to me, it just looks desaturated

I like this, you get a sense of motion and the exposure and detail on train is very good IMO.
My favorite part is the smoke .
