Was taken with a std 18-55 lens at 55
f5.6
1/60 with flash due to poor light.

Lens isn't the best as it got damaged, waiting for the insurance to sort it out.

You used the correct aperture for this chap, but I think the shutter speed may have been a bit slow.
I know from experience that birds don't keep still long enough to use low shutter speeds.

When using flash use Tv mode and set the shutter speed to 1/200th, this will force the flash to make up for the aperture.
It will also freeze the blackbird and reduce the chances of it appearing soft.

Make sure you get focus lock on the eye, as this is the most important part of the image.

Good luck with your insurance claim.

Like matt says it's a little soft. However you've done a great job on the exposure, spot on. If it's a crop I'd have liked to see a little more space on the right side, it seems to be a little cramped for me, but that's just my opinion

Nicely exposed and a great achievment getting a bird shot like this with such limited focal length. As has been said, minor niggles around head movement of the bird and lack of space to the right (generally you want a bird to be looking into more space than is behind it, birds in the middle of a frame can look a little stale).
cheers,
Andy
