Another Gull
From a bunch of shots yesterday, 1 shot posted in gallery, I think I just about got away with this one. Still a long way to go, but I am enjoying the trip

You caught the position of flight very well. I think when you said about just getting away with it, you're probably referring to the brightness of it, only just held the whitest areas without burning out. I agree the head and neck could be better defined but it's still a very creditable attempt so well done :o)

Exposure not withstanding, it is a fine photo. You can just feel the lift from the wings.
How did you take the shot? Moving camera? Settings? Thanks skip |

Thanks for the comments.
The camera settings were 1/400s, f/5.6 in AV mode, ISO 200 at about 135mm on my 70-300 zoom, hand held. basically following the bird through the viewfinder and waiting. From 35 shots I got 1 that I think is reasonable and this one which is close to having blown areas. |

Looks pretty good from here although you have burned that leading edge of the wing and neck. I find exposure compensation of about -0.7 is needed on seagulls/swans to maintain the detail
