Re: Autum Native
what an interesting plant... cracking DoF on this, only thing i could say is that it looks such an interesting plant i would have loved to see it form a different angle allowing more of the shape etc to be viewed

Re: Autum Native
well IMO the background is sufficiently OOF to not be distracting and the colours blend in with the subject without it becomeing "lost" so no i think the bg is fine!

Re: Autum Native
This is a lovely picture but very dark. I think the reason is because of the profile you have used Sue. Your picture is saved in Adobe RGB (1998) profile but when this is shown on the internet, it will invariably look darker than it does on your computer. You need to convert it to sRGB IEC 69166 profile so that it will show correctly on here.
I have done it for you (and made a slight adjustment to lift the contrast) to show what I mean. Cheers, Rob ![]() |

Re: Autum Native
Should have added, if you are using Photoshop, this is how to convert profile:
Edit > Convert to Profile.... Select the sRGB IEC 61966 profile in Destination Space. (If this is showing the same as Source Space then it doesn't need converting!) Cheers, Rob |

Re: Autum Native
ok off topic ish.............. Rob all mine are adobe RGB ( i think)......... why do they need to be changed and doesnt that mean u have to change them on the printer and does that mean that u have to change it on all hte pics individually?

Re: Autum Native
If yours are all Adobe RGB Fi, that would go a long way to explaining why your pictures often end up looking a bit dark on here (apart from the graveyards which are meant to look that way! <g>)
You only need to make the change for photos you are uploading to the internet, not for photos you are printing so it doesn't mean any changes to the printer at all. The colour gamut of Adobe RGB is different to the sRGB gamut (gamut meaning the range of colours viewable) and although Adobe RGB is a wider gamut, the iternet cannot parse all of the colours and so substitutes those it cannot show accurately with approximations within the range of colours available to it. This invariably means a darker picture results. For the same reason, we often look at glamour shots like David's and they can seem a bit flat. This is because the range of skintones is not being shone fully. So, when you are preparing a photo to show on here or put on a website, convert it to sRGB so that you are seeing it on the computer as close to the way it will look on the internet. You'll be changing the resolution to 72dpi so you'll be saving this as a separate file to the high res original anyway so it only takes 2 seconds. Cheers, Rob

Cheers, Rob[/quote] Thanks Rob , total oversight on my behalf,as i always save to sRGB before placing on net. Normally i press save for web and devices , or mode > RGB before changing image size definately explains why it looks different then , so thanks again Rob for picking up on this for me

Re: Autum Native
I really like this image. The flower is terrific and the dof is perfect.
Perhaps a crop along the left side to get rid of excess background and move the flower off center would be cool. I didn't really think that your orig image was too dark until I saw Robs, which I think is too light. Like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, somewhere inbetween should be just right. Oh, and by the way, how about Will's "old girl"? Is that just a fond Aussie/British euphamism or is it grounds? ![]() In either event, personally, I think that Old Will should sleep on the porch for a few nights! skip |

Re: Autum Native
interesting points, the picture to me is perfect, I strive for dark pictures with parts that are bright, like the center of this picture,,,, I don't really like sRGB but I will try it out because I am new to the internet and want to get along with it.

Re: Autum Native
Skip, if you didn't think the original was dark before you saw mine, that suggests your monitor is set lighter so you saw the original lighter. That in turn would mean my one looks too light to you. Just a thought as I have looked at my one again and certainly on my machine (I calibrate the monitor every couple of weeks) it isn't looking too bright, though of course it can simply be down to personal taste as well as anything else.
I only really wanted to highlight the point about the two different profiles, which hopefully it has done. Cheers, Rob |
