B&W Critique required

I've been having another play with black and white conversion.
I selected this image for the strong light and shadow on the path.
I find images with stronger geometric lines and shapes much easier to deal with and personally find this image a little cluttered due to the foliage (colour defines the areas better)
I used channel mixer to convert and 'Selective Colour' using the Blacks and Whites (left the Neutrals channel alone as it muddied everything up) and selective Dodge & Burn, focusing on the stone sign to the left in its own layer.

C&C welcomed, particularly around the post-processing side of things.

I can't see much to criticise there. I look for a good black and a good white in mono shots, with a good range of tones in between and no loss of detail in the shadows or blown highlights. Boring and traditional I suppose, but that's what our photographic forbears deemed made a good print and I don't think anyone has shown them to have been wrong.

Excellent processing given the level of contrast in the shot. I love the shadows acoss the path. I agree that foliage can look 'busy' as it does here, but that's just the way it is.

Who or what is Big Burn? is that burn as in brook or stream?

Thanks CT

Garnock, Dod and co will know better than me, but I beleive a 'Burn' is the Sasenach equivelant of a 'Wood'.
The shot was taken on the way up to Wick a couple of months ago.
