Bare bits with a knife (Nudity)
Hi All
Is this image acceptable to the members Gallery? I have my doubts that why I have asked the question. http://u1.ipernity.com/u/5/B4/A1/167...01f3f0c1.l.jpg Please give your critique, comments good or bad welcome. It's a private page on Flickr, Geoff, so we can't see it. Best to check by PM with one of the mods if you're in any doubt.

Re: Bare bits with a knife (Nudity)
Yep it works now, and I think you have chosen the correct route for this one
I've got to say that this does not do much for me. The use of a machete has no context, and I can't work out if the shadows on her face have been worked on, or if the lighting is just very uneven. The skin tones are so varied. Her pose accentuates her chin and the shoulder line is not flattering. Of course, I don't know what you were trying to get out the shot. If it was to provide a flattering image of the model, it (for me) has failed. If you are trying to give a message or illustrate something, again for me it does not work. Sorry for being negative, but it is only my view. Others might differ.

Re: Bare bits with a knife (Nudity)
I would have to echo much of what Graham said. Additionally, I'm a bit bothered by the difference in skin tone between her face and stomach. Beyond tone, the stomach skin could stand a bit of smoothing - looks mottled.

Re: Bare bits with a knife (Nudity)
Interesting comments.......... The colour difference is the ''slap''. Very little post processing was applied as I wanted the image to be ''hard edged'' and natural, I tried to achieve this with one light and by over exposing the shot, I did a few and altered the lighting by moving the models position along the wall.
I like the shot and I was taking the shot for me, so great. I did not warm the knife, Hayley did not seem to mind. I was more worried about her cutting herself as it is sharp enough to shave with! Thanks for your comments Geoff |

Re: Bare bits with a knife (Nudity)
I don't find shots like this appealling so my comments must be taken from that viewpoint, don't be offended. I am trying to look at it within its genre and putting my personal thoughts aside.
I find it all a bit contrived. What is it saying, what's the knife all about? It comes across to me as one of those shots where they want to show a bit of flesh but need something to hide the 'naughty bits' so grab anything they can find and say 'hold that across your nipples!' I know that sounds harsh but my point is that the whole image needs to hang together and say something. I don't think this does as it is a lady lstanding flat against a wall (defensive position) and the knife, however sharp it may have been in real life, doesn't come across as sharp or else she wouldn't be pressing it against her boobs albeit with her thumbs just behind. Her facial expression is mildly threatening I guess but frankly that doesn't seem the point when she is naked. So overall I just don't 'get' what the picture is trying to say. As the dispassionate viewer I am simply feeling 'Why is a lady standing there naked with a knife across her boobs?' They say every picture tells a story but I am not sure what the story is supposed to be here. Sorry, hope that wasn't too harsh, as I said it isn't my type of shot so feel free to ignore me ![]() Cheers, Rob

Re: Bare bits with a knife (Nudity)
Thanks Rob
I have not ignored your comment. Any comment is welcome, good or bad, as long as it is constructive. I think you have summed up this image well. It was a hastily arranged shoot , so i think this shot typifies my confused thoughts on what I as trying to do................. Thanks again Geoff |

Re: Bare bits with a knife (Nudity)
Full marks go to Geoff (viages) for calmly taking the criticisms on your, shall we say adventurous, images of late - they have caused a few raised eyebrows, but you are obviously learning from sharing + receiving critique on these images (even though they are not to everyone's - ok most people's - taste), and learning is what it's all about
Have you had enough of shooting lewd-nudes yet ![]() Last edited by Charlotte : 25-04-2008 at 14:06. |

Re: Bare bits with a knife (Nudity)
Thanks Charlotte, it is all part of the learning process. I have not done a nude shoot yet as none of the models I have worked with have ask me to disrobe
.I am attempting to do some less......er ....lewd topless images on Sunday. Watch this space. Geoff |
