Re: Barrel Catus
Macros and closeups like this must be tack sharp.......and I don't think anyone will argue that this shot is not sharp............
Sorry....couldn't resist. Back to your photo. If your subject was just the cactus needles then maybe you got what you were shooting at. Unfortunately, my eyes keep going to the right to the big green cactus trunk and away from the needles. The large empty space in the center, oddly enough also seems to be a distraction. What really sets off a small light-colored subject like a cactus needle is a contrasting background (a dark background in this case). The light color of that empty space is just not helping you out here.

Re: Barrel Catus
Hey Boof
Sharpness is not an issue here. It hurts just to see it. I agree with Paul. There is just too much going on, and I don't know what to pay attention to. A crop might help, but I think that the answer here is just to frame it differently in camera. But it was a good try. skip |

Re: Barrel Catus
I would love to see this with a dark background so that those sharp needles stand out a whole lot more. I'd also like greater depth of field so that the FG needles are not quite as blurred. Definitely works as an 'OUCH' picture though! I sure wouldn't want to lean on it accidentally!
Cheers, Rob |

Re: Barrel Catus
Thanks, I was walking up a hill to my back yard and sat down for a rest on my patio when I shot this, the catus is sitting on a table. I was interested to see if anybody wanted the leaf off the middle catus,,,never thought about the contrast behind the needles, well good, you learn something everyday if you ask. I have already started to pay more attention to whats behind my shots if I can, and I do shoot alot of these, I use my 400 zoom.
