| Photo Critique Discuss Beach Fishing at Sunset...This has had absolutely no changes to hue or saturation at all, it has been cropped, a touch of sharpening ... |

Re: Beach Fishing at Sunset
Looks just like a summer beach in Maine. Great sky and amazing that it is all natural. I love those silhouette sunset shots.

Re: Beach Fishing at Sunset
Wow, over 50 viewings and only two comments. I notice this is much the same ration on a lot of others recently which is a shame as the pictures on this particular thread are put here specifically to get constructive feedback, be it positive or less so.
Don't be put off if you feel you are less experienced, your viewpoint is just as valid as everyone else's and often more so as often more experienced photographers miss the basics! So come on folks, let's hear what you have to say about pics on the Critique Thread, doesn't matter how much or how little, it's all much better than nothing ![]() Cheers, Rob

Great shot. Love sunsets and sunrises. Silhouette works well.
With you on that Rob. I put pics up to learn and welcome any feedback. Good or bad. ![]() Last edited by morlandroger : 07-12-2007 at 17:56. |

Re: Beach Fishing at Sunset
I'm much more interested in the two poles plus line than I am in the figure, sun, any of that. I think a crop where just these elements are present against the gently graduated tones in the sky would be really interesting. As it stands it's a fairly standard pic of someone at the beach.

Re: Beach Fishing at Sunset
Ok Rob,
![]() First thing I noticed is that the sun reflection is very long straight and narrow,,,no glow. How was it done,,maybe some kinda of filter....just a little different for me, I always seem to get the whole glowing effect. Boofers......... ![]() |

Re: Beach Fishing at Sunset
I think this is a pretty good image all-round. Composition and exposure are spot-on.
I'm wondering if it might have been better if the figure was separated from the rods a bit? |

Re: Beach Fishing at Sunset
NO! Leave the rods. If I saw this in Sal****er Magazine I would be tempted to book the excursion. Being an outdoorsman, these are the images that keeps me going outdoors. I really like this image Rob.

Re: Beach Fishing at Sunset
I was not saying remove the rods from the picture - just have some separation between them and the figure.

Re: Beach Fishing at Sunset
The light/colour works well but there's just too much black there for me with the silhouette not working well (as it's not well defined) - maybe lighten the figure/end of the rods to give a hint of outline/detail?

Re: Beach Fishing at Sunset
Thanks for all the comments, all helpful in different ways.
Boofers, I think the lack of 'glow' is simply down to not letting it be over-exposed. This was not too difficult simply because the sun was very low and being naturally filtered and so wasn't as intense as it would have been if higher in the sky. Mark, do you not feel the figure and the fishing rods are well-defined enough to see clearly what is happening? I deliberately went for the darker silhouette simply because I felt there WAS enough definition for them to be clear. I felt that the lower legs of the man, for example, were being 'seen' by the brain because it knows what is there. By cutting off some of the black area, I think it would look very strange, as though the guy had stumps instead of legs (I know you were not suggesting a crop). Interesting point this one, anyone else got any views on it? Graham, I entirely agree that ideally I'd have prefered a degree of separation between the figure and the rods. I was actually standing quite a distance from the man and using a telephoto lens. To move sideways sufficiently for there to be a real difference I would have needed to move quite a long way and I really needed to just keep shooting and see what I got. I would definitely have prefered a small gap though for sure. MB, I am not sure I am with you with regards the crop you are talking about but feel free to pimp it and show us what you mean ![]() Thanks all, I appreciate you taking time to give your thoughts. Cheers, Rob |

Re: Beach Fishing at Sunset
Regarding the legs Rob, I agree with you. You need the space where they are, even if you can't see them and cropping would loose the proportions.
