Bit of a swan cliche

Not sure if this works or is a bit too "busy", opinions and suggestions welcomed It's lost a lot of detail resizing, full size is fine

I'd crop most of that black water out of the foreground, it's just distracting from the main subject which is the swan and the swanettes.

I'd crop it to put Mum on the lower right third, and also probably crop it a little on the right.. That would work for me.

New I could rely on you CT I was worried about cropping out the reflection but it didn't add anything anyway. It's better but it's still pretty average. Ah well, they're just a mile down the road from me and they're pretty tame. Old papa swan gives you a hiss occasionally but he's pretty laid back, you can easily get within about 4 or 5 feet.

You're being a bit hard on yourself I think Dod. It's a nice shot - I like the overhanging branches. Swans can be an exposure nightmare with burned out highlights but that shot is just fine.

Great shots. Very sharp and clear colours - I can almost hear the water...

i think both are very good, itshard to get a good shot of a swan without losing detil due to exposure issues, so not bad at all as far as that goes, the first definately works better for me, great shot

The cropped version of the first shot is pretty good, as Ct has mentioned getting the correct exposure on this type of shot is tricky. This picture has all the required elements to make it work including natural framing from the overhanging branches.

The second shot for me fails due to the second bird having it's back to the camera, the main swan is a strong enough subject and posed interestingly enough to carry this shot by itself. Maybe a different crop to remove the second bird and leave some space in front of the white swan would also improve this shot. I guess the next question is "was this cropped and have you left enough room to crop the image as suggested?" If not as you say its only a few minutes down the road to re-take.

hehe, never mind, was it Brodie you were meaning??

If so are you going along to the St Combs fair day at Auldearn this Saturday? There's supposed to be one of those battle re-enactment things, could be quite decent if the weather holds out.
