Calling on the past
Already cloned some cables out from the post behind the phone box and only just noticed some on the house top left BUT should I clone the lampost out as well?
Sigma 28-70 @70mm, F7.1, 1/160 sec, iso 100 ![]() Thanks for looking. C&C welcome. Ken. Last edited by KenCo1964; 20-10-2005 at 15:01. |

I'd clone the post out Ken. Lovely shot -I love the splash of red. I can't make my mind up if it's not looking a little over-saturated, over - processed or it's just a 'busy' shot with a lot of detail anyway? Either way, it's a nice shot and the processing is OK as long as it's the effect you were after.

Thanks Ct. I did de saturate the phone box a little but left the rest, I like the effect but maybe it does need the rest de saturated. Will try and clone the pole out later.
Thanks again. Ken. Ps. I also desaturated the sky a smidgen. |

Of course - what you should really do is clone out the railings.

It's got a real painting feel to it but I can't help but feel that the dark ominous sky is a little out of place behind such a bright scene.

It was a pretty rough day yesterday and this was taken at about 3pm, just as the sun was starting to show.
Okay the above pic has had the brightness adjust and a little desaturation. Thanks. Ken. |

I like it Ken, it is typical of the style you seem to be producing of late. Even without your name being on it I would have thought of you straight away from seeing the picture.

Thanks Steve, for sometime now I have been using a program called Photomatix...which Bachs has recently mentioned on here, I think I'm just starting to get the hang of it now. I don't use it on every shot but this came out quite nice I thought. I spent all day out yesterday with the camera, specifically to shoot many shots of the same subject but at different camera speeds to overlay them using this program......but just don't like what I came home with. This telephone box was ONE shot and a snap shot at that....but using Photomatix I used a feature called tonal mapping and came up with this, like you say I have done before. Photomatix is used for HDR, but I like this look only using the one shot as stated and then further processing in PS.
Thanks for all the comments. Ken. |

I think that looks miles better Ken. Yep - you can definitely spot your stuff, there's a definite style there.

Very Definately a 'Ken' Shot.
I think it's no bad thing to have a style of your own. Easier to be remembered. I agree that the lampost has to go. If I could offer any critiscm it would be that I would've liked to see the image larger and less frame. I know I do the same, but I think on here I'm gonna post unframed images from now on, as with the size limitation it takes up space that could be given over to the actual image. |

This is interesting.
Only the other day a Picture Editor was moaning to me that there are no 'contemporary' images of English villages - all the mobile phone masts, telegraph poles and cables get cloned out by photographers wanting that 'ye olde worlde' style. Try thinking not only of the artistic value but of the historical value of your images. in another hundred years, our grandchildren will be amazed that all the technology they take for granted seemingly appeared overnight... The challenge should be to create an image that includes all of our modern technological paraphenalia |

interesting point. Could be a challenge, finding the beauty in a mobile mast! But you're right, all our grandchildren's grandchikldren will think we lived in some idyllic, luddite-ish world. devoid of skin blemishes, the trappings of technology and full of deserted open spaces.
if it's ugly...shoot it! |
