Re: Cambuskenneth 2
definately not HDR Charlotte...... only one exposure.. no merging and only ran it thru lucis art a little.... the problem i had with the sky is that when i darkened it it didnt look natural against the colours of the abbey and i didint want to change these as i like the way the stones have come out.....erm does that make sense! ? lol i hope so ooh and i didint touch the sats levels at all in this one......

Re: Cambuskenneth 2
TBH Fiona I don't see the difference between hdr + LucisArt, all looks like hdr to me
except it didn't fix the sky, like proper hdr might've done Anyway, that's your preference, so 'nuf said on that ![]() Maybe the LucisArt processing brought out the colours too? The problem for me with the colours + the building is that the building - looking at its structure - looks like it's old ... only with the processing you've done, it looks too new and/or modern now. Does that make sense? |

Re: Cambuskenneth 2
much prefer this to your mono version. To me this stands out alot more than the mono.
Nice shot Fiona. The only thing i would of altered again its personal opinion ,is bit more room at top of image.I also could imagine this with a fog around in bg.Well done Fi. |

Re: Cambuskenneth 2
Hi Fi
I am back and am my brutal self. This image looks more like a snapshot. It gives me no feeling at all. It just does't seem "artistic". Perhaps this was an exercise in post processing...if so, that is fine. But as a good image, for me it just doesn't work. Now, you might ask why? I can't really say. It is just a feeling I get. But this is a very symmetrical building. Maybe it would turn into something interesting if you did it in mono and tight, so that there was just a small frame of background around it. That would emphasize the symmetry, and perhaps be more "artistic" ![]() Think out of the box. Aren't you glad I'm back? ![]() skip |

Re: Cambuskenneth 2
Let's remember what HDR means: high dynamic range. It is commonly achieved by merging three or more photos together with different ranges in order to get a strong contrast and range in the shot. However, it need not only be achieved that way, the application of certain filters does a similar thing: and LucisArt is definitely one of them. The LucisArt filter basically looks for areas of contrast and increases the depth of that contrast without changing full areas of colour.
So yes, this is a sort of HDR shot though still a touch flat but that is easily rectified. As Skip said, it isn't hugely artistic but it is a decent enough reportage shot of the tower. Hate to admit it but I think this would benefit from a quality mono treatment..... Dave? Where are you? :o) Cheers, Rob
