Camillia
Something a bit less abstract this time........
Walking through a Japanese garden in Virginia, I saw a beautiful Camillia bush that was just beginning to drop its blossoms. One of the flowers fell on this granite rock. The contrast of the granite and the delicate blossom petals caught my eye. Your thoughts? - Paul

Re: Camillia
They do make a great contrast! Shame the petals were chopped off and think there's a touch of over-sharpening (that slight cutout look at petal edge) but it works really well otherwise!

Re: Camillia
yep fully agree with what has been said......... it is such a shame the you clipped the top of the petals..... not sure about the over sharpening as i like the edges as they are.... but that may be a personal taste thing.

Re: Camillia
Gotta be honest, the clipped petals didn't even occur to me until I read the other comments and having looked back to check, they still don't bother me that much. I like the contrast that you were looking to show here Paul, works really well. I am not sure if the yellow is a tad over-saturated but no matter, very good

Re: Camillia
Took your input and reworked the photo.
A new crop here includes all the petals - I didn't even notice that I had clipped a couple originally. There is a bit less sharpening this time and a bit more saturation on the rock to bring out more of the blue in the granite. I tried to dial back the yellow interior of the blossom - what I think we are seeing is a dusting of pollen throughout the center - that's pretty much the way it looks in the original. So, once again you guys have come thru with solid constructive advice that results in a much improved picture. Thanks again, - Paul

Re: Camillia
Love the new version Paul, the extra work on the rock has added to the contrast but has also, because of the yellowish growth on it, tied the two together so we get a classic compare and contrast image.
Well done, Rob |
