Re: Candid
FI
I like the shot. IMHO I might suggest a lower angle to give her face a better prospective and maybe less DOF. LOL but what do I know anyway |

Re: Candid
Hi, Fi
I have to say that at first, I wasn't really moved much by this image, but as I looked at it, and thought about this woman, it sort of grew on me. It does say a lot about the elderly, and the edge of sadness that many have. Perhaps it is just a restful moment in the dog walking day, but there seems to be that hint of a lonely, depressed feeling. In some ways, it mirrors the plight of the seniors as they think about their lives, and the ends of them. From a technical standpoint, it is a bit busy in the bg, as often happens in candid shots. It also seems a bit flat, too many tones in the middle. I do like the triangle formed by the woman and her dog. The idea of shooting from a bit lower angle is good, if you aren't too obvious, since this is a candid. Also, the reflections in her glasses prevent us from seeing her eyes, and are a distraction. I would be interested in how far away you were, your lens length, and if you interacted at all with this lady. skip |

Re: Candid
thanx both of you,
i did try to get a lower angle but i was a bit wary of being knocked over in the rush as this was Edinburgh on the first day of the Fringe and very VERY busy..... Skip focal length was 55mm using the 18-55mm lens, f5.6. and no i did not interact with her in anyway. Although in the image she portrays just what u described, in reality she actually looks a bit of a battle axe, as she was watching over someone who i think was her son run their stall! Fi |

Re: Candid
Hi Fiona. I like this shot the lady and the dog seem together
and is only spoilt for me by the pole. On these shots I tend to get involve with cloning and trying to improve them rather than deletion. Why not have a go and clone out the pole . If you enlarge it in sections and clone in close up I think you will be encouraged by the results.Studying you picture do I detect that you have selectively guasian blurred the backgound about 2 feet from the curb backwards ? with this mask you may also tone down the brightness a little to minimise the headlamp of the car. Regards Brian PS Fiona, I have carried out a few minutes cloning on your picky and darkened the headlamp I hope you find this helpful. I suppose this is really a PIMP your picky thread?. I don't know how to display it here. I have copied it to the clipboard and pasted it into this thread but all I get is the link below. ![]() Fiona I see that after I have submitted the thread the picture has appeared as if by magic. You can see that I'm new to this. Regards Brian Last edited by brian wright22 : 06-08-2007 at 19:36. |

Re: Candid
Sod the mutt, the old lady is the picture, no question. A rat on a lead is of no interest.
Gonna sit back now and get warm to the flaming from the pooch lovers LOL. Seriously though, I do think the story here is in the whole, not in a part. And I also agree with Fi that I prefer the pole in the pic but I do like the dumbing down of the headlights to stop the bright area drawing the eye away. Needs a touch more space at top and bottom but I know you were working within the limitations available so not much you could do about it. Good work Fi :o) Rob

Re: Candid
![]() Now here is the little upholstered rat but the poles missing so it has nothing to "P" up. This does need space at the top Rob Well you can't have everything. I'm going to bed . Nite Nite. Last edited by brian wright22 : 06-08-2007 at 23:33. |

Re: Candid
I like it, ok guys we have had a bit of fun and hope you don't mind too much Fiona.
Like I said earlier I like the original with minor "tweeks" and the whole idea of Candid is that it is Candid and that is why we all have our own ideas. Anyway Fiona got any ideas about "Perspective" ? ![]() Brian |
