Chihuly Glass on the Lake

Nighttime show of a Dale Chihuly installation in Miami. These are large glass balls floating on a lake. It was dusk, and they were lit by external lighting.

I took this with my little Panasonic LX2, and honestly am suprised that it came out. All I did was adjust the exposure a tad. I purposely kept it a bit dark, because after all, it was nighttime.

Skip i like this ,
i like the variety of colour , i dont know if you can have individual ball stand out more, just to stand them out from rest of image.and if possible go down lower just to get the view at same level of balls. This really is just a personal preference and maybe being tad picky . As for composition i like your originality .Sorry cant be more on constructive side . did you take any other angles? Also on my monitor doesnt look dark at all ,i would of thought daylight apart from fg light .

Re: Chihuly Glass on the Lake

Thanks, Sue

I didn't do what I always espouse here, that is to move around and get different angles.

Too many things to think about, and I just jumped up and down with joy that I got an image in the dim light.

And please, no comments like "who is joy?"

Re: Chihuly Glass on the Lake

An interesting piece of art, I've seen a few other pictures of his stuff and some of it's quite impressive.

I don't have a problem with the picture being a dark but it also seems a bit flat and I find the light in the bottom left a little distracting. I like the composition of the balls relative to each other, you chose a good viewpoint from that perspective.

Hope you don't mind but I cropped a little (probably a little too much from the lhs), boosted the contrast and boosted the red / orange contrast slightly.

cheers

Dan

Re: Chihuly Glass on the Lake

Good crop, Danpen. I didn't think about the lights when I posted.

Maybe a little too contrasty for me, but a better shot nontheless.

Thanks

Re: Chihuly Glass on the Lake

Yup, the crop works well and makes it a good image. The lights in the bottom area were distracting and pulling the eye downwards. No idea who this Chihuly person is but the floating glass balls does make a good image here

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Chihuly Glass on the Lake

Errrr, does that mean I like Chihuly or not?

Not my cup of tea at all but I am a bit traditional in my artistic taste so no real surprise there. I quite like some of the impressionist art of the likes of Monet but can't gain an appreciation for the likes of Picasso at all, no matter how hard I try.

Guess I am a bit boring.... but of you dare agree you're in trouble

Cheers,
Rob
