Christmas lights (trying)

First night/long exposure for me. Went looking for Christmas lights but too many cars with headlights so will try again another night. Found this though. Christmas lights on top left. C&C please.

PS if anyone wants to know. The pic is level (spirit level) Cockermouth is tilted.

Re: Christmas lights (trying)

TBH, I struggle with this shot. It's difficult to see what's going on and it's got that orange colour cast.

Hopefully, you'll be able to get out and take some others - sorry, not very helpful!

Re: Christmas lights (trying)

The foreground to the left is too dark I think for the exposure of the lights and the orange lit up area. Or that could be reveresed and you could cut out the lights which have blown out and create an exposure for a darker area like the bottom left so that the picture will have some more punch to it.
Night photography can be tricky but exiting when you get it right.
Also do you do in-camera colour balance or pp tweaking?

Re: Christmas lights (trying)

Thanks for your comments. First try at nights. The orange cast is from street lamp top left, cropped out. Shot in RAW and colour balance changed. Agree too orange and lost foreground. Will try again with colour balance and exposure.
Ta both.

Re: Christmas lights (trying)

ROFLMAO Might just try here again in daylight. Or when Christmas is over. This is a seriously spooky place. Narrow lane, gravestones etc. Just too many different light scources/types. Thanks again.

Re: Christmas lights (trying)

I think it's just that the lights actually play an almost side role in this shot, they are just hidden away in the top left just about to go out of the shot and to be honest they don't actually look like Christmas lights. They just look like the kind of outdoor lights some people use at any time of the year.

I think it's back to the drawing board with this one but go out and try again, not further adjusting of this one.

You've got 25 days left before Christmas so I am sure you'll be an expert by then

Cheers,
Rob
