Citrus and Tide
![]() This is a street scene in Vietnam. A photojournalistic effort as I was riding in a cycle. I thought the contrast of the woman kneeling, picking out wonderful looking citrus against the boxes of Tide in this bustling street atmosphere was really ripe for photography. I know, blown highlights, not the greatest composition, the guy behind the lady shouldn't be there, but other than that, what do you think????? skip One of the fun things about this site is that because of the time difference, I wake up in the morning to all kinds of new images and comments from the UK. |

Re: Citrus and Tide
Skip its a candid. and IMO as such it captures things as is..... no posing no set up etc... so the fact that someone is there that shouldnt merely makes it what it is............. my only point is as u already pinted out the blown highlights...... perhaps a bit of a crop at the top. or maybe clone them out........... but apart from that its a wonderful capture of a candid street scene. taken in a country many of us here will never visit.. so great stuff!!!!!!

Re: Citrus and Tide
'Morning, Skip. Nice one. As Fi said, candids are never perfect. There ia always something that is not 'correct', but of course, it does not matter. The purpose of the picture is to capture a moment in time that illustrates a part of life, and this does exactly that. Good capture.

Re: Citrus and Tide
Yep, a grab shot and it is not designed to be a perfect photographic record. It is a scene you saw that you felt told a story of some kind. I entirely agree: it does. It creates interest and was a good shot to capture. Blown highlights, blah de blah, yup. But that isn't what this picture is about.
I wonder if a slight increase in saturation might make the fruit and the Tide boxes just a bit punchier? Not so they look over-cooked, just a bit stronger. Frankly, this is the type of shot we don't shoot enough of. One of my heroes of the lens is Msr Henri Cartier-Bresson of whom it was often said that when he saw people watching a parade, would ignore the parade and take photos of the people as he captured far more of the event in the faces of the people then ever he would from the event itself. Cheers, Rob
